About The Position

ExecuPOWER is seeking an experienced Senior Distribution Designer to support the design and execution of overhead electric distribution projects for utility clients. This role is responsible for developing high-quality design packages, performing technical QA/QC reviews, mentoring junior designers, and collaborating with engineering, project management, and field personnel to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective distribution solutions. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with overhead distribution line design, utility standards, and field engineering practices. Experience supporting Air Targeted Asset (ATA) programs, pole replacement initiatives, and utility asset replacement projects is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent utility distribution design experience will also be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience designing electric utility distribution systems with a strong emphasis on overhead distribution.
  • Proven experience supporting pole replacement programs.
  • Demonstrated experience performing QA/QC reviews of electric distribution design packages.
  • Strong knowledge of electric distribution construction practices, utility specifications, and applicable codes, including the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS platforms, and other utility design software.
  • Experience preparing construction packages, bills of materials, work orders, and supporting engineering documentation.
  • Ability to perform field visits and accurately collect engineering and design information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting Air Targeted Asset (ATA) programs is highly preferred.
  • Experience supporting investor-owned utilities in the Greater Philadelphia Region, or similar electric utilities.
  • Experience serving as a technical lead or QA/QC reviewer on utility distribution engineering programs.
  • Experience supporting storm hardening, grid modernization, and distribution reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Previous experience mentoring or leading junior designers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complete design packages for overhead electric distribution projects, including system upgrades, reliability improvements, new customer connections, pole replacement programs, and asset replacement initiatives.
  • Perform field investigations and collect engineering data required to support overhead distribution line design.
  • Design overhead electric distribution facilities in accordance with client standards, the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), utility specifications, and industry best practices.
  • Support pole replacement, reconductoring, line relocations, system hardening, and reliability improvement projects.
  • Prepare construction drawings, staking sheets, bills of materials, work orders, and supporting documentation using AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and other utility design software.
  • Perform comprehensive Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) reviews of distribution design packages to ensure compliance with utility standards, company procedures, client requirements, and engineering best practices.
  • Review designs prepared by junior designers, verifying the accuracy of field data, construction drawings, bills of materials, pole loading, and design documentation prior to client submission.
  • Identify design discrepancies, recommend corrective actions, and ensure deliverables meet quality, constructability, and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, field personnel, construction teams, and utility stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in client design review meetings and provide technical expertise during project execution.
  • Mentor and train junior designers on utility standards, overhead distribution design practices, QA/QC procedures, and company workflows.
  • Assist with project planning, schedule development, scope definition, and cost estimating.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, design revisions, and engineering records throughout all phases of the project.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve design quality, consistency, and workflow efficiency.
