About The Position

This position involves performing drafting, preparing drawings, estimates, and maintaining records. Under supervision, employees will interact with customers to determine service requirements, negotiate layouts and service dates, and ensure efficient and cost-effective solutions while adhering to codes and standards. Responsibilities include conducting field investigations, evaluating service alternatives, preparing construction drawings and estimates, interpreting survey plats, and assisting with engineering calculations. The role requires designing overhead primary and secondary facilities, including pole jobs, internal jobs, and revenue projects. It also involves communicating and negotiating right-of-way easements and permits, determining clearing needs, and preparing necessary documentation. Coordination with Entergy departments and personnel is essential. The role includes approving and releasing project designs, and providing guidance to less experienced helpers. Adherence to Entergy's safe work practices and participation in safety meetings are mandatory. The position serves as a primary contact for customers during the design phase and beyond.

Requirements

  • Must have one of the following: One year field operations experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering, or Gas Distribution) OR Two Year Technical Associate Degree in a related field from an accredited school OR A minimum of 60 College hours toward a 4 year degree in a related field from an accredited school.
  • Must meet all qualifications of Engineering Helper or one of the following: Three years field operations experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering or Gas Distribution) OR Two year Technical Associate Degree in a related field from an accredited school and 2 years related work experience OR A minimum of 60 College hours toward a 4 year degree in a related field from an accredited school and 2 years related work experience OR Four year Technical Degree in a related field from an accredited school.
  • Must meet all qualifications of Distribution Designer and one of the following: Four years field operations experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering or Gas Distribution) and worked 2 years as an Distribution Designer OR Must have qualified and worked 3 years as an Distribution Designer. OR Must Possess a 2 Year Technical Associate Degree or 60 credit hours toward a 4 year degree in a related field from an accredited school and worked 2 years as an Distribution Designer or related work OR Must Possess a 4 Year Technical Degree in a related field from an accredited school and worked 1 year as an Distribution Designer or related work.

  • Large projects such as subdivisions and highway projects that consist of reconductoring will be overseen by Sr. Designers or Management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform elementary drafting, prepare dimension drawings, prepare routine simple estimates, and keep map and operating records.
  • Meet regularly with external/internal customers to discuss and determine specific requirements to provide service in each situation and negotiate facilities layout, point of service, and proposed service date using the most efficient and cost effective method of meeting the customer’s needs while adhering to existing codes, standards and policies.
  • Conduct field investigations; evaluate possible service alternatives, determine the appropriate standards and/or specifications; prepare accurate construction drawings and material/labor estimates; interpret customer survey plats; assist in engineering calculations, tables, layouts, studies, and reports.
  • Learn and become proficient in designing overhead primary and secondary facilities (e.g., Pole jobs, Internal jobs, and Revenue).
  • Communicate and/or negotiate right of way easements and/or permits and determine right of way clearing needs.
  • Prepare and secure appropriate right of way documents and drawings in accordance with Entergy Standards.
  • Communicate and coordinate assigned projects with all Entergy departments and appropriate personnel.
  • Approve, release, and assist/create project designs when authorized.
  • Follow and adhere to all Entergy safe work practices/policies, which include attending and participating in daily/monthly safety meetings.
  • Design construction, including external/internal customers, reliability and section type projects.
  • Interpret and document the appropriate tariffs, policies, and procedures related to the Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC) process.
  • Serve as the one-point of contact for the customer during the design phase and as needed after the design package has been released for scheduling and construction.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced Distribution Design Helpers.
