About The Position

This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground gas mains and services. The role involves physically demanding work, including continuous standing, walking, bending, crouching, and stooping. The individual will work as part of a 2-3 person crew, performing tasks such as removing, repairing, replacing, and installing gas piping, investigating and repairing gas odor complaints, operating pavement breaking and road cutting equipment, and operating a backhoe and dump truck. Additional duties include performing walking leak surveys, underground utility mark outs, and drilling and tapping of gas mains. The selected candidate must be available for trouble call assignments within approximately 30 minutes and may be subject to shift work. This is a union-represented position, and membership in the union will be required.

Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle, including meeting the physical and qualification requirements for a DOT Medical Card.
Ability to wear a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus.
Ability to perform excavation duties including the use of pavement breaker and shovels.
Access to construction sites that are non-handicapped accessible.
Ability to move and lift material weighing up to 60 lbs.
Ability to perform on-call emergency response duties.
Must be able to become a member of the union.
