About The Position

The Distribution Associate is involved in multiple aspects of our weekly provision of healthy food to those in need in our food distribution sites across our catchment areas of Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and North Vancouver. The Distribution Team works alongside volunteers to serve those who struggle with food insecurity.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with sensitivity and without discrimination towards people of diverse cultures, races/ethnicity, socio-economic positions, ages, religions, genders, physical/mental health challenges/disabilities, and sexual orientations;
  • Kind, welcoming, and helpful in your approach to dealing with people and contentious situations;
  • Must be a critical thinker who can act on their feet;
  • Exceptional attention to detail;
  • Aptitude to learn and willingness to remain teachable;
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy client facing environment;
  • Flexibility to work at all of our locations in Greater Vancouver;
  • A team player, willing to go above and beyond to assist others;
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills (written/verbal), including active listening skills;
  • Proven ability to problem-solve and to take responsibility for completing tasks in a timely fashion;
  • Lead by example, coach with patience, and model positive behaviour.
  • Working experience of using Microsoft Word and Outlook;
  • Public speaking experience and comfortable speaking in front of small groups.
  • Proper safety footwear required;
  • Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs on an occasional basis;
  • Exposure to ambient temperatures and noisy conditions;
  • The ability to walk and stand throughout the shift.
  • A criminal record check for working with vulnerable sectors is required upon hiring.

Nice To Haves

  • Verbal and written proficiency in other languages is an asset;
  • Training or experience in de-escalation and conflict resolution is an asset;
  • Previous experience working in the hospitality industry or in customer service roles is very advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and delegate tasks to a team of volunteers that help onsite;
  • Communicate to corresponding departments regarding issues and incidents as they occur;
  • Effectively communicate, employ problem-solving skills, and adeptly address conflicts with clients in a manner that is both respectful and professional;
  • Set up and restock food lines for maximum efficiency and productivity;
  • Ensure the distribution site is clean and well maintained at all times;
  • Work and collaborate within a team to execute various tasks within food distribution;
  • Complete administration and data entry tasks involving our in-house client database, Microsoft Word, and Outlook;
  • Book and conduct client intake appointments and ensure accurate information is being inputted;
  • Welcome and scan clients as they arrive;
  • Patrol and monitor outside to ensure safety for all those on-site;
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or Distribution Assistant Manager.
