Requirements

  • Six years of experience in computer systems analysis, computer programming, or in planning or designing distributed computer systems; or A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems, and two years experience in computer systems analysis, computer programming or in planning or designing distributed computer systems can substitute for the required experience.
  • Employment in this position is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a Level 1 and Level 2 background check at no cost to the candidate.
  • Office hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the computer operations manager in providing distributed systems support to the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute.
  • Serving in an administrative role responsible for the configuration, management, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Windows and Linux servers in a hybrid on-premises/cloud environment, as well as any network hardware and connectivity issues across the St. Petersburg campus and remote facilities.
  • Providing rapid response to operational, performance, or security alerts.
  • Review vulnerability assessments and apply any recommended security patches and adjustments to maintain security baselines.
  • Manage identity access through Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Responsible for the routine backup of all FWRI data servers and functions as a backup email system administrator.
  • Support the on-premises Veritas backup system and ensure the integrity of Azure backups.
  • Manage Azure storage accounts and ensure compliance with data management lifecycle standards.
  • Maintain a backup tape inventory for FWRI and the remote inventory in Tallahassee.
  • Resolve complex endpoint issues - providing guidance and solutions to technical and non-technical staff.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for issues that cannot be resolved by the helpdesk.
  • Manage device enrollment, configuration profiles, and application deployments to maintain endpoint standardization in Microsoft Intune.
  • Automate troubleshooting and deployment workflows in PowerShell.
  • Assist in the planning, design, testing, and configuration of network computing resources in response to agency-wide computing mandates to ensure timely compliance.
  • Assist in the orderly upgrade of computing resources to ensure uninterrupted service to FWRI during any transitions.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of database, server, and data migrations to Microsoft Azure.
  • Create and maintain documentation of processes and procedures related to work completed.
  • Contribute to the creation of knowledge base articles to assist end users with understanding and resolving issues.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Participate in public outreach efforts as appropriate.
