About The Position

At Foundation Building Materials (FBM), Dispatchers coordinate drivers, routes, and deliveries to support smooth daily operations. The role provides schedules and dispatches delivery crews safely and efficiently while maximizing branch profitability, and ensures accurate communication and distribution of delivery orders to warehouse and delivery staff. Dispatchers use and maintain Department of Transportation (DOT) dispatch software, provide drivers with instructions when logistical or customer service issues arise, and confirm delivery addresses, materials, stocking conditions, and other necessary details before trucks leave the warehouse. The Dispatcher oversees material accuracy and verification for each truck before delivery and monitors and reports delivery labor costs as needed or requested. The position also builds and maintains customer relationships, communicates delivery status to customers, sales, and management, and maintains professional contact with customers before, during, and after a sale. The Dispatcher communicates concerns directly to the Branch Manager, attends required delivery and company meetings, follows company policies and DOT and OSHA standards, and supports the company’s values of safety, customer focus, teamwork, integrity, and being a company of choice. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Strong computer knowledge and data-entry skills.
Ability to quickly and accurately perform basic math.
Assertiveness and demonstrated ability to take charge and be proactive when necessary.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to quickly read a road or geographical map and communicate directions to another person.
Effective telephone skills, including being polite, organized, and able to ask questions.

Responsibilities

Schedule and dispatch delivery crews safely and efficiently while maximizing branch profitability.
Accurately communicate and distribute delivery orders to branch warehouse and delivery staff.
Use and maintain DOT dispatch software to achieve above-target FBM compliance percentage.
Instruct drivers when logistical or customer service issues arise.
Confirm the address, material, stocking conditions, and other needed information for every delivery before the truck leaves the FBM warehouse.
Manage material accuracy and verification for each truck before delivery.
Monitor and report labor costs for each delivery as needed or requested.
Establish, build, and maintain customer relationships.
Communicate delivery statuses effectively with customers, sales, and management.
Maintain professional, courteous contact with customers before, during, and after a sale.
Communicate concerns or issues directly to the Branch Manager.
Attend required meetings related to deliveries and the company.
Support company values relating to safety, customer focus, teamwork, integrity, and being a company of choice for employees and customers.
Follow company policies and procedures and DOT and OSHA standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
