About The Position

This position involves scheduling and dispatching drivers and vehicles for client delivery and pick-up services, specifically for medical appointments and meal delivery. It is primarily a Customer Service role and may also involve serving as a Scheduler. The role reports to the Transit Supervisor and includes cross-training. The dispatcher will be the primary contact for transit drivers, answering questions, handling emergency calls, and performing customer relations functions for scheduling. Responsibilities also include routine follow-ups with potential clients, responding to inquiries and complaints, scheduling group rides, preparing reports, managing tablet inventory, ensuring driver uniform compliance, responding to vehicle accidents, monitoring routes for safety, assisting drivers with vehicle problems, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations. The individual may also serve as a Scheduler and Transit Driver when required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Route Match computer software
  • Knowledge of Windows operating system
  • Knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • High School or High School equivalency
  • Two years previous dispatch experience
  • Knowledge of State and Federal requirements for private and public transit systems
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must possess auto insurance
  • Must have a good driving record
  • Must have an acceptable criminal background check

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and dispatch Drivers and vehicles for client delivery and pick up for medical appointments and meal delivery services.
  • Serve as a Scheduler when needed.
  • Dispatch transit drivers daily to schedule and meet client demands with respect to needed equipment.
  • Serve as primary contact for transit drivers and answer their questions concerning directions, emergency calls.
  • Perform customer relations function for scheduling.
  • Perform routine and regular follow up with potential clients.
  • Respond to inquiries, complaints and correspondence from customers and the public; investigate and resolve complaints courteously and in a timely manner or refer appropriately.
  • Schedule group rides for congregate sites, Day Care sites and special contract services.
  • Prepare and review daily/weekly/monthly reporting.
  • Perform inventory control of tablets.
  • Ensure that Drivers are in proper uniform and report violations to supervisor.
  • Respond to transit vehicle accidents and follow established protocol for reporting and investigating.
  • Monitor transit routes and stops to detect violation of regulations and to maximize passenger safety.
  • Assist Drivers in resolving problems with vehicle when needed.
  • Ensure that Drivers meet and comply with all federal, state and local health and safety regulations.
  • Serve as Scheduler and Transit Driver when needed and upon request of supervisor.
  • Perform additional tasks as required.
