About The Position

Southland Trucking is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Dispatcher to coordinate daily freight operations. This role is responsible for scheduling drivers, assigning loads, monitoring routes, and ensuring on-time deliveries while maintaining compliance with DOT regulations and company policies. The Dispatcher serves as a critical link between drivers, customers, brokers, and internal departments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and FMCSA compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with load boards (DAT, Truckstop, etc.).
  • Experience working with ELD systems.
  • Understanding of weights and measurements, including axle weights and load securement considerations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple drivers and loads simultaneously

Nice To Haves

  • Some college preferred
  • Previous dispatch experience in trucking or logistics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assign and dispatch drivers to scheduled loads based on availability, location, and Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
  • Coordinate pickups and deliveries to ensure on-time performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor driver locations using GPS and ELD systems.
  • Communicate load details, directions, and schedule updates to drivers.
  • Manage load boards and communicate with brokers and customers regarding freight opportunities.
  • Verify rate confirmations and ensure accurate load documentation.
  • Track and update shipment status in dispatch software.
  • Address service failures, breakdowns, or delays and implement timely solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records of dispatch activity, driver logs, detention, layover, and accessorial charges.
  • Work closely with safety and maintenance to ensure fleet readiness and compliance.
  • Ensure proper weight distribution and compliance with state and federal weight regulations.
