About The Position

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor for Penn Transit Services, the Dispatcher plays a critical role in coordinating the daily operations of Penn’s comprehensive transportation system. This position is responsible for the daily coordination of Penn Transit’s vehicular escort services, providing safe and reliable transportation for faculty, staff, and students across campus. Serves as the front-line quality control link between riders and the University for all transit-related matters. May occasionally operate CDL vehicles based on operational needs and driver availability. This is a safety-critical, mission-essential role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong customer service experience required.
  • Must maintain and possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) from the state of residence within 90 days of hire.
  • Passenger Endorsement and the Air Brake Restriction must be removed.
  • Must also maintain and possess a valid US DOT Medical Examiners Certificate.
  • Must maintain a valid U.S. DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous dispatch or logistics experience preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and dispatching software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and dispatch requests for vehicular escorts during evening and late-night service hours.
  • Coordinate the efforts of the vehicular Shuttle Service with other transit services provided in the Penn Transit Services network including but not limited to: PennBus Service; Penn Accessible Vehicle (PAT); Penn Charter Service; Penn Crew Transportation; and the AM Transportation Service, through the dynamic allocation of resources including people and vehicles to meet the demand for the various services as required.
  • Provide accurate information and courteous assistance to inquiries regarding Penn Transit Services and its regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for radio equipment, it's proper use, care and secures storage in the central dispatch location at the end of each shift.
  • Ensure that the PTS Ops Center, all Escort vehicles, all key boxes, etc. are properly secured at the end of the last shift each night.
  • Ensure that the “Daily Log Book” is filled out properly at the end of the last shift each night.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
