The primary duties of the position include determining the nature and location of the emergency, determining priorities, and dispatching EMS or other emergency units as necessary (ranging from routine to critical) and in accordance with established procedures. The role involves managing situations as conditions change, performing Emergency Medical Dispatch including pre-arrival instructions using available resources, receiving and processing emergency calls, maintaining contact with all units on assignment, and maintaining the status and location of EMS units. Additionally, the position involves answering non-emergency calls for assistance, entering, updating, and retrieving information from a variety of computer systems, receiving and responding to requests regarding non-emergency transfers from medical facilities, monitoring numerous public safety radio frequencies, and operating a variety of communications equipment, including radio consoles, telephones, and computer systems. Other duties as required.
