About The Position

Bay Transit is seeking a Dispatcher/Scheduler to ensure all passengers have a safe and timely ride to meet their transportation needs for work, retail, legal, medical, educational, or recreational facilities. This role reports to the Regional Transit Operations Supervisor and involves coordinating rides, scheduling, communicating with drivers, and handling operational and administrative duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience in customer service positions
  • Working knowledge of phone systems and two-way radio
  • Working knowledge of dispatch and scheduling software e.g., Trip Master
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail)
  • Ability to communicate verbally over the phone/radio clearly, even under stress or difficult circumstances
  • Must be organized and methodical about each task
  • Have a positive attitude while dealing with riders and drivers
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the software and knowledge of the service area to plan and schedule rides for clients and guide drivers.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate rides with passengers by taking incoming calls for ride requests and making calls to confirm rides.
  • Schedule rides into scheduling software, checking the existing schedule and ensuring optimal routing of buses to identify appropriate pick-up and drop-off times.
  • Communicate with bus drivers and dispatchers throughout the shift to meet last-minute requests for rides and changes on the road.
  • Manage daily changes to scheduled routes, including cancellations and add-ons.
  • Coordinate backup and roadside assistance in case of a vehicle breakdown.
  • Modify routes to consider local road conditions.
  • Prepare Drivers’ Manifest for the next day.
  • Complete own timecard accurately every day.
  • Record tracking information such as start/finish mileage for each bus, and cash/tickets collected.
  • Occasionally provide a ride to a stranded passenger using a Bay Transit vehicle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
