About The Position

Shepherd Oil Company, established in 1949, operates more than 60 trucks and is seeking a Full-Time individual to split time between hauling fuel and dispatching. This role involves working as a dispatcher each weekend and delivering fuel during the week, with at least two days off during the week (e.g., Tuesday/Wednesday). The position is based in Blackwell for dispatch and Ponca City for hauling fuel. As a Dispatcher, the role is crucial for the safety and efficiency of the transportation department, involving customer service through inbound phone calls in a high-performance call center environment. The Dispatcher will coordinate operations and logistics, resolve issues, and align employees with company values and goals, requiring proficiency in all aspects of petroleum transportation and delivery.

Requirements

  • Class A CDL - Hazmat and Tanker Endorsements required
  • Must be able to drive 13/18 speed trucks
  • Must be at least 23 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in the delivery/trucking industry required
  • Must possess at least intermediate computer skills and knowledge
  • Ability to evaluate alternatives in order to make best overall value decisions based on considering key factors, cost, customer expectations, driver needs and other factors
  • Solid judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills, and a proven record of taking the initiative and responsibility in using those skills effectively, both individually and as a team member
  • Ability to function well in a high-stress environment
  • Pass a background check and drug test

  • Experience in dispatching/customer service is beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Manage the workforce to achieve daily production goals.
  • Determine equipment and manpower requirements for daily operational needs.
  • Manage prevention of service failures through effective dispatching of drivers.
  • Supervise scheduling of shipments.
  • Contact customers daily to determine their fuel needs, the current market and trends, and our availability to fulfill their fuel needs.
  • Create and maintain a high-performance culture.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a professional manner.
  • Build, grow and maintain a relationship with customer bases through excellent communication skills and customer service.
