About The Position

This safety sensitive (SS) position is responsible for receiving emergency and administrative calls from the public and dispatching the appropriate emergency personnel. The role involves receiving, monitoring, and dispatching radio communications traffic for Animal Services, Code Enforcement, and Police. It also includes receiving and screening incoming telephone calls, E-mails, and walk-in complaints from the public and other Public Safety agencies, categorizing and prioritizing calls during emergencies. The position dispatches Animal Services Officers to incident locations and provides information to E911 Dispatchers if other emergency services are needed. A continuous log of incoming telephone and radio calls is maintained, along with monitoring and routing incoming messages from national and state computer networks. The role requires checking the Animal Services data bank for information such as registered dangerous dogs, calls for service, warning citations, and warrants. Training exercises, including in-house training, Shelter Pro, ACIC recertification, and Euthanasia Certification, are participated in as needed. The position also includes cleaning work sites and front lobby areas, updating contact lists, and performing clerical tasks such as data entry, answering phones, interacting with the public, and logging information. In emergency situations, the employee may be trained in animal medical care and inoculations, and if certified as a Euthanasia Technician, may perform euthanasias and maintain records. The role may also involve assisting with adoptions or surrenders, photographing animals, preparing intake cards, and operating/driving a ½ or ¾-ton truck as needed.

Requirements

  • Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines.
  • Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 7 to 11 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and understand general business/company related articles and professional journals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers.
  • Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.
  • Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
  • Ability to be ACIC & NCIC certified.
  • Office and Mobile Computer to include Ticket Citation programs and Shelter Pro., Word, Excel, RPS, RMD, Atlas and other programs.
  • Under immediate supervision, performs general assignments of work, with periodic check of performance by supervisor.
  • Limited responsibility with regard to specific assignments in planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work operations.
