About The Position

This is a supervisory position responsible for directing the daily driver duties, managing fleet operations for efficiency and safety, and ensuring DOT compliance. The role involves interacting with internal and external customers, managing payroll for drivers, coordinating equipment repair and maintenance, and investigating safety incidents. The supervisor will also conduct periodic ride-alongs with drivers to understand their experiences and ensure they have the necessary support. This role directly supervises all employees assigned to the department, including drivers, and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. This includes training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, conflict resolution, team building, coaching, addressing complaints, and setting a positive example.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years experience as a Dispatcher
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Nice To Haves

  • College and/or related technical experience.
  • Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain Management experience.
  • One year supervisory experience as a proven manager of at least five people.
  • Four years’ experience in the Shipping and Warehousing environment or CDL Truck Driving Experience.

Responsibilities

  • Put rates in TMW or rate loads/negotiate rates with 3rd party carriers.
  • Direct the daily driver duties managing where they go, the time it takes and when their day is concluded.
  • Manage DOT compliance related to driver available hours of service when assigning loads and daily task.
  • Interact with internal and external customers as needed, including shift hand-off communication.
  • Enter POs as needed.
  • Participate and initiate discipline to drivers as per company policy.
  • Review driver documents for accuracy and/or compliance.
  • Involvement as needed with selecting external carriers to take loads.
  • Ensure Drivers are accurately compensated for work performed through payroll involvement.
  • Manage the fleet in a financially efficient and safe manner considering service and cost.
  • Manage the fleet flow to the lease vendor’s shops for equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Coordinate and manage road breakdowns with the vendors.
  • Follow all Safety Policies and ensure Drivers and fellow employees follow all Safety policies and rules.
  • Complete incident investigation forms fully with as much detail as possible when a safety related issue or event occurs.
  • Conduct ride-alongs with Drivers periodically to ensure they have what they need and to experience the elements they encounter doing the job.
  • Directly supervise all employees assigned to the department including Drivers.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities including training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; conflict resolution; team building; coaching and leading employees to improve; addressing complaints and resolving problems; documentation; and setting an example of superior behavior, attitude and performance and team work.
