About The Position

The role purpose of a dishwasher at a restaurant is essential to the smooth operation of the kitchen and the overall cleanliness of the establishment. While often considered an entry-level position, the role of a dishwasher is critical for maintaining sanitation standards, supporting kitchen staff, and ensuring a positive dining experience for guests.

Requirements

  • Certifications in food safety and sanitation, such as ServSafe or Safe Food Handling
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Physical Stamina and Endurance-ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and perform repetitive tasks in a hot and demanding kitchen environment
  • English language proficiency
  • Attention to Detail: Dishwashers need to ensure that dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Attention to detail is crucial to spot and remove any food residue or stains.
  • Time Management: Dishwashers often work in fast-paced environments where they need to manage their time efficiently to keep up with the flow of dirty dishes and utensils.
  • Knowledge of Safety Procedures: Dishwashers should be familiar with safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment. This includes proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals.
  • Use of Dishwashing Equipment: Dishwashers should be proficient in operating various types of dishwashing equipment, including commercial dishwashers, conveyor belts, and pot washers.

Nice To Haves

  • Culinary School or Vocational Training
  • Previous experience working in a kitchen setting is highly beneficial for line cooks. This may include positions such as prep cook, dishwasher, kitchen assistant, or other entry-level kitchen roles.
  • Previous experience in a high volume restaurant.
  • Understanding of Chemicals and Cleaning Agents: Many dishwashing machines require the use of specialized cleaning chemicals and detergents. Dishwashers should have knowledge of how to properly handle and mix these chemicals.
  • Spanish language proficiency
