About The Position

Make a difference in public health by joining the Louisiana Department of Health's Region 8 Tuberculosis (TB) Program! In this rewarding role, you'll help protect communities by conducting communicable disease intervention activities related to tuberculosis prevention, surveillance, treatment support, and contact investigations throughout the region. Under the supervision of the Disease Intervention Specialist 4, the incumbent conducts field investigations, performs case management and follow-up activities, and coordinates directly observed therapy (DOT) for TB patients and contacts. This position works closely with healthcare providers, hospitals, correctional facilities, detention centers, laboratories, local health units, and community partners to support TB control efforts and ensure compliance with state and CDC guidelines. The incumbent is responsible for timely documentation, data entry, reporting, and coordination of services related to TB prevention and treatment activities.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in disease investigation and prevention activities; OR Three years of experience in investigatory work, social services, nursing, or as a medical laboratory technician or assistant; OR A bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts field investigations of TB cases, suspects, and contacts, including case interviews, contact identification, and follow-up activities.
  • Performs directly observed therapy (DOT) to monitor treatment adherence and completion.
  • Responds to TB transmission events and investigations in correctional facilities, detention centers, healthcare settings, and community environments.
  • Travels throughout the region to support TB clinics, specimen collection, testing activities, field visits, and on-site response operations.
  • Coordinates TB control activities with correctional facilities, infection prevention staff, healthcare providers, laboratories, and local health units.
  • Supports and participates in TB Medical Clinic (TBMC) operations and patient follow-up activities.
  • Completes timely and accurate documentation, data entry, and case management activities in LATB, Intergy, and other required reporting systems.
  • Maintains case records, treatment documentation, and contact investigation records in accordance with CDC and OPH program requirements.
  • Assists with surveillance activities, reporting requirements, and implementation of TB program protocols and guidelines.
  • Provides education and guidance related to TB prevention, treatment, and infection control practices.
  • Participates in emergency response and public health response activities as assigned.
  • Utilizes interpersonal communication skills in a professional, customer-focused environment with patients, staff, healthcare partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Accepts and performs additional duties not specifically listed but necessary for the operation of the work unit and continuity of public health services.
  • Travels to alternate work sites and field locations as necessary.
