The Illinois Department of Revenue is hiring a Discovery & Recovery Policy & Operations Advisor (Public Service Administrator Option 2) for the Discovery & Recovery Division within Audit, headquartered out of Springfield, Illinois. This position is responsible for monitoring and tracking inventory levels, compiling and monitoring various reports, and serving as an advisor over in-house tax audits for the Division. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to four years of college preferably with coursework in administration, accounting, tax accounting or tax law.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in accounting or finance with related tax auditing work.
  • Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
  • Requires the ability to use and secure a state issued mobile device, e.g., cellular phone, laptop computer, tablet, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) years of experience working with federal tax laws and Illinois tax laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Six (6) years of current experience (i.e. within the past two years) in utilizing GenTax Datamart (or similar tax system), Data Cubes and reporting applications.
  • Five (5) years of experience in testing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and implementing system changes.
  • Six (6) years of experience developing, installing, and evaluating new and revised methods, procedures, and performance standards.
  • Four (4) years of experience communicating effectively at all organizational levels by organizing and presenting material both orally and in writing.
  • Three (3) years of experience preparing and maintaining complex statistical and informational reports.
  • Advanced proficiency in GenTax or similar tax processing software.
  • Four (4) years of experience with Microsoft Office Suite, to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, or similar software systems.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a technical advisor over in-house tax audits for the Division.
  • Monitors and tracks inventory levels available for selection by Assistant Division Managers (ADMs) and supervisors, ensuring mandatory audits are assigned timely and priority audits are assigned within 180 days.
  • Compiles, prepares, and monitors various statistical and management information reports using GenTax, including but not limited to: Stage Monitoring Report, Inventory Report, Direct Field Time Percentage Reports and Production reports.
  • Monitors and reviews audits coming out of progress to ensure all appropriate documentation is attached and the final determination is processed timely.
  • Serves as the project leader of year-end testing and any other major Bureau or Division projects, as assigned by the Division or managers, (e.g. implementation of new programs).
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
