About The Position

The Disciplinary Hearing Officer conducts fair and impartial inmate hearings in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC) policies, and Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) directives. The role reports to the Deputy Warden, Operations. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, and pays $19.00 per hour. MTC Facilities provide a safe and secure working environment while helping offenders gain skills and treatment intended to support success after release. The incumbent is also expected to perform other duties within their capabilities as assigned by management.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of experience in corrections or a related field, including at least six months in a supervisory capacity.
Valid driver’s license in Mississippi or Louisiana with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
Successfully complete annual in-service training requirements after hire.

Responsibilities

Review investigation results with the Chief of Security or Deputy Warden, Operations, and determine whether sufficient evidence supports a charge before a disciplinary report is filed.
Ensure all facts are introduced at each hearing and assess the credibility of the facts presented.
Ensure the narrative report clearly describes the charged offense or offenses.
Write requests for continuances.
Call witnesses as necessary to present evidence.
Question witnesses in person or by telephone and record their statements.
Interview informants and determine how they obtained their knowledge.
Protect informants’ identities for security reasons.
Ensure inmate rights are not violated.
Testify at disciplinary hearings.
Make written notations on hearing records.
Perform other duties as assigned within the incumbent’s capabilities, as determined by management.
