Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate patient transportation services across UVA Health using a variety of resources, including ambulances, wheelchair vans, taxis, public transportation, and other community-based options.
  • Serve as a central point of contact for transportation planning, balancing patient needs, insurance requirements, transportation availability, and operational priorities to ensure efficient patient movement.
  • Coordinate patient discharge transportation using ambulances, wheelchair vans, taxis, buses, and other transportation resources.
  • Communicate with patients, families, clinical teams, case managers, and transportation vendors to arrange appropriate transport solutions.
  • Navigate insurance coverage requirements and transportation eligibility guidelines to support efficient discharge planning.
  • Prioritize transportation requests while managing multiple cases simultaneously in a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Investigate transportation concerns, resolve service issues, and support positive patient experiences.
  • Track transportation activity, process invoices, and maintain accurate records in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and assist with training and onboarding of new team members.
