About The Position

The Maryland Department of Labor Veterans Program is seeking an energetic Disabled Veterans Outreach Program / Local Veterans Employment Representative (DVOP/LVER) veteran to assist veterans and veteran spouses with qualifying employment barriers (QEB) at the American Job Center. The ideal candidate will have experience in case managing veterans and veteran spouses with their employment and training goals, and experience advocating for veteran and veteran spouse employment with community businesses. The role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team to locate and provide assistance and resources to veterans and eligible veteran spouses with qualifying employment barriers. Travel may be required, and reimbursement for personal vehicle use will apply according to State travel policy.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Candidates may substitute experience in the field of workforce development, customer service, human resources, recruiting or similar field on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer with active-duty military recruiting experience or career counseling experience on a year-by-year basis for the required education.
  • Applicants must meet one of the following DVOP preference criteria for selection: 1.) Qualified service connected disabled veteran; 2.) Qualified eligible veterans; and 3.) Qualified eligible person (38 U.S.C. 4101(5)).

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Provides intensive services to eligible veterans and eligible spouses to assist them in obtaining or retaining employment leading to self-sufficiency.
  • Assesses job seeker skills and needs using the automated system to complete, review, and update customer registration.
  • Identifies potential job matches of job seeker skills with job qualifications.
  • Refers qualified job seekers to job openings utilizing the automated system.
  • Shares labor market information with customers to enable informed decisions on labor trends and economic conditions.
  • Represents the Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning by planning and coordinating with unions, apprenticeship programs, and businesses to promote and secure employment and training programs.
  • Engages with state and local business services entities by attending meetings with agency representatives and employers to provide staffing and information services.
  • Conducts employer outreach through telephone calls, emails, and site visits.
  • Disseminates labor market information to businesses.
  • Promotes agency services, job fairs, compliance with Federal Contractor Job Listings (FCJL), federal and state veterans' incentive training programs, and positive recruitment efforts.
  • Promotes credentialing and licensing opportunities for veterans.
