About The Position

The Specialist oversees the initial student DSA review and determination process for DSA Director’s review and action; communicates with potential/current students, faculty, and staff regarding DSA-related inquiries; and manages various student outreach campaigns. The Specialist helps existing DSA students, faculty, and staff with the implementation and use of awarded accommodations. The Specialist manages workflows in Hyland OnBase and maintains the internal DSA student database to ensure student records and correspondence are up to date. The Specialist supports catalog and Student Handbook processes and publications and creates documents to track Student Handbook and catalog addenda changes. The Specialist reviews the team’s SOPs each quarter and makes updates as needed. The Specialist prints DSA student course materials and disability services industry-related newsletters each month. The Specialist performs quarterly updates in Credential Engine so that information regarding APUS degrees and certificates is current. The Specialist provides support to the department to help streamline the DSA and catalog processes and with initiatives to expand the visibility of the DSA Office.

Requirements

  • Experience in higher education and customer service preferred
  • Understanding of student development and learning preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and without supervision
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:30 or 9:30-6:00 depending on department needs
  • May require monthly travel to Charles Town, WV, to perform office tasks and to attend meetings

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming telephone calls and initiate outbound calls on DSA phone queue as needed.
  • Respond to inbound emails and initiate outbound email correspondence as needed.
  • Review student DSA documentation and provide accommodation decisions and recommendations for Director’s action on a weekly basis.
  • Oversee outreach email campaigns for DSA students and update related monthly tracking reports and spreadsheets.
  • Maintain internal DSA student database and Hyland OnBase workflows.
  • Update Credential Engine website on a quarterly basis.
  • Provide guidance to students, staff, and faculty regarding student accommodations concerns and questions.
  • Assist with quarterly Catalog and Student Handbook publication updates and compile documents and addenda to track changes.
  • Review and update team SOPs each quarter.
  • Print monthly DSA student course materials and professional publications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to the DSA Office to support APUS’s initiatives and student body
