About The Position

The Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet advances education, workforce development, and economic opportunity across the Commonwealth. The Cabinet provides education and training programs, employment and reemployment services, unemployment insurance, and disability determination services to help Kentuckians gain skills, find work, and maintain economic stability. It partners with education providers, workforce boards, and employers to align training with labor market needs and oversees labor programs that promote fair and safe workplaces. The Education and Labor Cabinet’s Department of Disability Determination Services Programs (DDDSP) assists and determines eligibility for Social Security Administration Disability benefits for the citizens in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. We are seeking a Disability Adjudicator III in the Specialized Workload Asst Team Section of the Specialized Workload Branch to provide professional adjudication of specialized disability workload for Social Security Disability applicants. The Disability Adjudicator III position is a federally funded time limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of experience adjudicating Social Security Administration disability claims.
  • Experience in adjudicating Social Security Administration disability claims or administrative experience within an organization that adjudicates Social Security Administration disability claims will substitute for the required bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Adjudicate all levels of a specialized disability workload of disability claims.
  • Request, obtain and evaluate medical and vocational evidence; prepare written decision.
  • Complete medical assessments and provide timely and accurate decisions.
  • Work with Policy, Quality Assurance and training staff regarding difficult workloads.
  • Answer inquiries from claimants’ representatives, Social Security Administration offices and others requesting claims information.
  • Attend training and meetings as necessary.
  • Ensure the safeguarding and security of all confidential and sensitive information and will be required to complete trainings, sign acknowledgements, follow all policies and adhere to all statutes and requirements pertaining to the safeguarding and security of confidential and sensitive information while employed and after employment ends.
