The University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine is recruiting mid-career, NIH-funded Program Leaders for strategic neuroscience initiatives. Program Leaders will join a new research facility and receive additional funds to help recruit three to four neuroscientists in their programmatic research area. The aim is to build on UAB’s basic and translational research portfolio, with future faculty recruitment across tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure-earning appointments and academic departments within the school. Priority will be given to applicants with dynamic research programs focused on brain health and disease across the lifespan. Programmatic focus areas include human iPSC/organoid models; neurodevelopment, including autism and intellectual disorders; epilepsy; substance use disorders, addiction, and motivation; neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation; circadian rhythms and sleep; traumatic brain injury; and neuropsychiatric disorders. Successful applicants will join UAB’s Comprehensive Neuroscience Center, which includes more than 450 neuroscience research faculty, clinicians, staff, students, and trainees from 32 departments across nine schools. UAB’s neuroscience community is supported by centers and institutes focused on areas including neurodevelopmental disorders, neurodegeneration, cognitive aging, multiple sclerosis, depression and suicide, addiction and pain, neuroimaging, and precision medicine. The new research facility offers flexible wet and dry laboratory space, integrated vivarium infrastructure, and spaces designed to support interdisciplinary collaboration. Applicants should electronically submit a curriculum vitae and a letter of interest addressed to the UAB Search Committee. Materials will be reviewed as received and until the position is filled. Required qualifications are an MD, PhD, or MD/PhD.
