About The Position

The TRIO Student Support Services Director oversees all project activities and serves as an academic skills resource and advisor to program participants. The program serves first-generation, limited-income, and disabled students. This position ensures that the program follows all established University policies and procedures. The Director of the TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Grant (known at MSSU as Project Stay) is responsible for the organization, planning, implementation, continuous review, and analysis of the College’s TRIO SSS Grant. The Director provides academic leadership, serves as an integral member of the College and Campus administrative teams, and reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Success.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university is required.
  • Two to three years of experience in education, counseling, program management or administration is required.
  • Knowledge of grant management including budget, personnel management and reporting
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office software
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to effectively present information to groups of administrators, faculty, students, and the community
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data for the purpose of reporting, while maintaining confidentiality
  • Ability to define problems, collect and interpret data for the purpose of reporting, while maintaining confidentially
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally (in person or by telephone) and in writing
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, faculty, staff, and members of the general public
  • Ability to work in a positive, team-oriented manner with a variety of people (student, faculty, staff, administrators, and members of the public), including disgruntled individuals
  • Requires the ability to manage or administer grant funds which includes the ability to make recommendations that impact the budget and the ability to manage the budget within assigned unit/division according to grant specifications

  • Preferred field of study is Educational Administration, Counseling, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Background similar to Project Stay students preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the development and implementation of all aspects of the grant.
  • Administers and manages the TRIO SSS grant budget, in accordance with University policy and in compliance with requirements and regulations of the funding agency.
  • Hires, supervises, evaluates personnel for the program.
  • Coordinates and oversees timely implementation of strategies to achieve SSS goals and objectives.
  • Communicates project goals and objectives to University community, campus administrators, faculty, and students.
  • Insures widespread dissemination of project information to potential participants.
  • Develops and implements continual assessment plan to ensure monitoring of project goals and objectives and student performance.
  • Oversees recruiting and selecting of students for the project.
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with other campus offices.
  • Maintains a caseload of approximately 20 Project Stay students.
  • Oversees record keeping of all Project Stay students.
  • Administers diagnostic tools and examines test data to determine individual service needs.
  • Compiles annual and interim performance and budget reports.
  • Advises Project Stay students on social, academic, financial, and career issues and provide referrals if necessary.
  • Writes an Individual Development Plan for each student in the caseload and chart each student’s progress toward graduation.
  • Oversees Project evaluation.
  • Promotes positive institutional climate by serving on campus committees as requested.
  • Ensures compliance with Education Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR) and other federal regulations.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Project and the US Department of Education.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the university’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Oversees interviewing, hiring, and training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
