About The Position

Blue Origin is seeking a Director of TeraWave Ground Infrastructure to lead the end-to-end design, deployment, and operational scaling of the terrestrial and ground networking architecture for its TeraWave satellite communications network. The role owns the physical and logical infrastructure connecting the satellite constellation to the global internet, with a focus on carrier-grade networking, high-speed packet processing, and global data center and Point of Presence (PoP) deployments. The director will shape the global IP/MPLS backbone and its routing, hardware, transit, and peering strategies across gateways, PoPs, and Satellite Operations (SatOps) facilities. The role encompasses rack and facility design, network hardware and packet-processing systems, global site and data center deployments, regulatory approvals, and operational telemetry. It also leads and develops global engineering and field deployment teams. The position requires at least 12 years of relevant infrastructure experience and a bachelor's degree in a related technical field; a master's degree or MBA is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 12 years of progressive experience designing, building, and operating large-scale service-provider, hyperscale-cloud, or telecommunications network infrastructure.
  • Deep networking and routing expertise comparable to advanced Cisco CCNP/CCIE or Network Design Engineer expertise, including extensive hands-on command-line configuration of enterprise routers, switches, and routing policies.
  • Proven expertise in physical rack layouts, top-of-rack switching, and integrating high-performance commercial off-the-shelf or custom packet-processing hardware.
  • Extensive hands-on experience managing backbone networks, IP transit agreements, BGP routing, and direct peering at major IXPs.
  • Proven experience with international site acquisition, data center colocation, facility power and cooling design, and cross-border telecommunications compliance.
  • Experience managing large capital expenditure budgets and cross-functional global engineering teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or MBA.
  • Cisco CCIE certification or equivalent industry-recognized advanced routing and switching credential.
  • Direct experience integrating high-speed programmable packet processors, such as FPGA-based platforms, specialized NPUs, or high-density ASIC white-box switches.
  • Demonstrated crisis-management capability during critical network outages, supported by automated telemetry and disaster-recovery framework design.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical strategy for designing and scaling the TeraWave global IP/MPLS backbone connecting gateway locations, core PoPs, and SatOps facilities.
  • Own router and switch configurations, BGP, OSPF, and IS-IS routing, and traffic-engineering policies to optimize latency and throughput.
  • Architect highly available connectivity, diverse routing paths, and automated failover and redundancy strategies to support 99.999% uptime for mission-critical PoPs and SatOps.
  • Design and oversee physical hardware rack deployments, including rack elevations, AC/DC power distribution, thermal management, cabling standards, and top-of-rack switch integration.
  • Specify, evaluate, and deploy commercial off-the-shelf routers and switches and custom or specialized high-throughput packet-processing hardware.
  • Partner with silicon and hardware acceleration teams to integrate packet inspection, encapsulation, and traffic-shaping platforms into ground infrastructure.
  • Negotiate global tier-1 IP transit partnerships, dark-fiber leases, and high-capacity transport circuits.
  • Expand the global PoP footprint at major IXPs and carrier-neutral data centers, establishing direct peering policies to minimize latency and optimize cost per bit.
  • Own site selection, real estate acquisition, and civil and facility engineering for gateway earth station data centers and SatOps facilities.
  • Direct multidisciplinary teams in technical-space build-outs, vendor relationships, colocation agreements, and global enterprise-scale hardware procurement.
  • Drive country-specific regulatory compliance, telecommunications licensing, and cross-border legal approvals for international site deployments.
  • Build, mentor, and scale global engineering and field deployment teams across network architecture, systems engineering, and data center operations.
  • Establish automated telemetry, monitoring frameworks, and NetOps tools to manage circuit health, packet loss, and hardware performance across global sites.
