About The Position

As the Director of Technical Program Management for the Retail Intelligence group, you will operate at the intersection of strategy and execution, partnering across teams to solve complex problems, leverage data to inform decisions, and build trusted relationships that drive outcomes at scale. This role focuses on shaping short- and long-term technology strategy, aligning cross-functional priorities, and enabling cohesive execution and operationalization across enterprise programs. The AI and Data organization brings together the capabilities required to make AI and data a true enterprise advantage. Our mandate is to build and operate the shared platforms, intelligence and decision systems that power customer experiences, enable associates and drive measurable business impact across Walmart. Within the AI and Data org, the Retail Intelligence group is specifically focused on training and delivering shared AI models and services that bring frontier AI capabilities at scale to products and businesses across Walmart in an economical way. The Retail Intelligence org works on cutting edge AI in the areas including Commerce Foundational Models, Content and Creative AI, Agentic Simulation and more. The work in Retail Intelligence group is inherently horizontal and collaborative.

Requirements

  • Proven track record in strategy, consulting, or analytics/business operations, translating insights into scalable, measurable business impact.
  • Passion for AI-enabled productivity; leverages internal AI tools to drive standardization, optimization, and change enablement.
  • Strong bias for action and iterative delivery; rapidly tests, learns, and improves solutions to deliver value quickly.
  • Advanced analytical capability with expert Excel skills; synthesizes complex data into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Strong executive communication skills, including building compelling decks and narratives; experienced presenting to and influencing senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated ownership of programs, planning, or operating frameworks, with strong follow-through and accountability.
  • Experience managing or supporting resource planning, hiring programs, and/or organizational operations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with high attention to detail, organization, and execution rigor.
  • Proven ability to lead ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives from problem definition through execution.
  • Ability to influence without authority, build trust, and align stakeholders across engineering, product, and business teams.
  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related area and 7 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.
  • Option 2: 9 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience leading and managing TPMs would be an advantage.
  • Certification in Project Management.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, with specialization in strategy, supply chain, finance, information systems, or related area and 5 years’ experience in product design.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Drive tech strategy and operational execution for Retail Intelligence AI initiatives.
  • Identify, design, and operationalize AI-enabled solutions using Walmart’s internal AI tools to streamline day-to-day work.
  • Build scalable processes and evangelize successful solutions across teams to accelerate enterprise adoption.
  • Translate high-level priorities into clear plans, milestones, and measurable outcomes, and independently track progress across teams.
  • Own resource planning and hiring operations, including headcount tracking, requisition visibility, contractor management, and reporting.
  • Lead data-driven analysis using advanced Excel and spreadsheet tools to generate insights that inform strategic decisions.
  • Build executive-ready materials (decks, white-papers, etc.) and clearly communicate updates, risks, and recommendations.
  • Operate as a cross-functional connector, aligning engineering, product, recruiting, and business teams to drive execution.
  • Identify gaps in current processes and implement practical improvements to increase speed, clarity, and accountability.
  • Manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, demonstrating strong ownership, follow-through, and attention to detail.
  • Build and scale the technical program function for Retail Intelligence group and scale the team with the organization.
