Director, Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting

About The Position

Direct and support accounting departments technical accounting, financial reporting and analysis, consolidation activities, with a particular emphasis on capitalized software and fixed asset accounting. Responsible for GAAP compliance, multi-entity consolidation and intercompany accounting, financial statement preparation and review, internal controls, quarterly reporting deliverables, and technical accounting research for complex and non-routine transactions.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Minimum 8-10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience with a focus on consolidations, intercompany transactions, and capitalized software.
Working knowledge of technical accounting standards including ASC 810 (consolidation), ASC 350-40 (internal-use software), and general GAAP research methodology; demonstrated ability to research and document positions on complex or non-routine transactions.
Experience in financial reporting, accounting policies related to information technology purchases (software, hardware, license agreements) related to information technology, including demonstrated ability to navigate complex and technical content particularly related to software capitalization.
Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop a team of accounting professionals.
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tight quarter-end deadlines.
Experience presenting financial results and analysis to executive leadership and/or external stakeholders.
Working knowledge of technical accounting standards including ASC 810 (consolidation), ASC 350-40 (internal-use software), and general GAAP research methodology; demonstrated ability to research and document positions on complex or non-routine transactions.
Strong in the use of Microsoft Office software including strong ability to analyze data using Excel for reporting and data mining purposes.
Extensive experience creating and modifying Microsoft Excel spreadsheets used for analyzing widely diverse types of data.
Strong understanding of accounting policies and procedures, with ability to apply and interpret them in practice.
Critical thinking and sound judgment in evaluating and resolving technical accounting issues.
Strong people skills including the ability to interact with team members at all level.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

Manage senior accountant responsible for fixed assets and capital expenditures.
Ensure proper capitalization of internally developed software in accordance with ASC 350, including review of stage classification and capitalizable cost determination.
Review and record journal entries for all IT-related costs — capital and expense — ensuring proper classification and allocation between the two.
Review and provide analysis for all IT expenditures, including proper allocation between expense and capital and provide monthly executive level reporting.
Oversee annual impairment review of fixed assets and capitalized software.
Provide oversight for the Oracle fixed assets module to include proper asset classifications, strategic initiative setup and segregation of assets to the proper entity.
Review reconciliations of IT time reporting in RMS to Oracle fixed assets to ensure the systems are in synch.
Collaborate with the resource manager to ensure the employee, contractor and consultant roster are properly allocated between business as usual and addbacks to properly report costs.
Ensure fixed assets are properly allocated by legal entity to support accurate consolidation and elimination of intercompany asset transfers.
Participate in General Service procurements meetings to provide financial analysis and guidelines for capitalization.
Collaborate with FP&A on Workday Adaptive input, reporting and sheet buildouts for capital and expenses.
Review or perform month end transaction review, journal entries, and financial statement variance analysis for assigned departments.
Coordinate team efforts for multi-company, multi-currency eliminations & consolidations; prepare/review intercompany reconciliations, elimination entries, and consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Ability to understand ERP set-ups and assist with decision making on how to modify when needed.
Oversee the end-to-end intercompany transaction process, including billing, settlements, and resolution of intercompany out-of-balance positions across all legal entities in collaboration with the International Controller.
Develop and maintain an intercompany accounting policy and procedures manual; ensure consistent treatment across entities and compliance with transfer-pricing documentation requirements.
Monitor addbacks for adjusted EBITDA to ensure properly set up on the system and that costs is a justified addback.
Participate in preparation of monthly financial statements and annual audited financial statements.
Prepare/review monthly reconciliations for various general ledger accounts.
Proactively design and maintain actionable reporting and metrics that are appropriate for audiences from development team members to executive management to BMI’s owners independently or in corroboration with others.
Review workpapers for property tax, property allocation, research & development and various others as assigned.
Participate in year-end external financial audit.
Serve as accounting decision maker in corporate projects in developing approach, business requirements and financial analysis, while ensuring that accounting requirements are adhered to.
Maintain and update applicable accounting policies, process flows and procedures.
Directly supervise team members while providing appropriate leadership, guidance and development to other accounting team members as needed.
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
