About The Position

Reporting to the Dean, the Director, Teaching and Learning provides visionary leadership for a multidisciplinary team of digital learning and teaching and learning specialists within the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL). The Director champions exemplary, evidence-based, and future-focused teaching practice. Working in close partnership with faculty members, Academic Faculties, and the Academic Leadership Team (ALT), the Director advances DC's Digital Learning Strategy, leads the responsible integration of Generative AI in teaching and learning, and cultivates a scholarly, innovative teaching culture that prepares career-ready graduates for a rapidly changing world. This role is central to advancing the goals of the 2025–2030 Academic Plan to enhance exemplary teaching and learning practices, foster a scholarly approach to teaching, strengthen faculty digital fluency, and continually renew our educational technology and teaching resources, all in service of a future-focused college.

Requirements

A minimum of a Master's degree in education or related field from a recognized post-secondary institution (focus on adult or higher education, teaching and learning, curriculum, digital/online teaching and learning, and/or science of learning is considered an asset). A PhD is an asset.
Minimum of 7 years of management experience in higher education;
Minimum of 5 years of proven excellence in instructional practice in adult or higher education;
Minimum of 5 years experience in budget management
Deep understanding of traditional and digital pedagogy/andragogy, the science of learning, and best practices in teaching and learning in higher education, including active and authentic learning, assessment strategies and student engagement in all modes of delivery (face-to-face, hybrid and online);
Deep understanding of the integration of educational technology and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in teaching and learning;
Knowledge and experience in implementing new technology in higher education, including sourcing, comprehensive review, procurement, budget, implementation planning and management, training, and support resource development;
Ability to support and advance teaching and learning in a diverse educational environment;
Strong oral and written communication skills;
Confident presentation skills and experience with group facilitation and developing, leading and delivering professional development workshops and/or tutorials;
Proven people and project management experience.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in all matters related to students, staffing and programming.

Responsibilities

Direct, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of digital learning and teaching and learning specialists and seconded faculty.
Provide strategic direction, setting priorities, and fostering a collaborative culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and pedagogical excellence to drive the priorities of the Teaching and Learning Plan 2026-2030.
Guide DC faculty in delivering high-quality in-person and digital learning experiences through innovative, evidence-based pedagogical practices, advancing the Academic Plan's commitment to enhancing exemplary teaching and learning and to enhancing faculty digital fluency for the ever-changing world of work.
Lead colleagues across the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to design and deliver a diverse portfolio of faculty supports that celebrates excellence and innovation in teaching and recognizes faculty leadership and inter-professional networks.
Act as a trusted consultant to faculty members, Academic Faculties, and the ALT on instructional practices, active learning strategies, authentic assessment, technology-enhanced education, student engagement, and academic integrity across in-person and digital learning environments, ensuring every student experiences the innovative, transformative education at the heart of DC's vision.
Plan and deliver academic orientation (in-person and online) for all new full-time and contract faculty.
Coordinate ongoing faculty development activities, including monthly workshops, Academic PD Day, the College Teaching Certificate program and micro-credentials to foster continuous professional growth.
Oversee DC's Digital Learning Strategy, investigate and implement new educational technologies, and lead initiatives that advance the priorities of DC's Digital Learning Framework, positioning the college as a globally recognized leader in innovative lifelong learning.
Partner with academic leadership and faculty to support the development and conversion of course content for digital delivery.
Thoughtfully integrate Generative AI activities and learning outcomes in alignment with established quality standards, modelling the innovation and integrity that define DC's values.
Foster creativity and innovation that enrich student learning and enhance faculty teaching, including consulting on proposed projects, reviewing and approving proposals, supporting researchers with project needs and dissemination of findings, building the scholarly approach to teaching envisioned in the Academic Plan.
Identify, evaluate, implement and support innovative digital and AI-enabled tools that continually renew DC's learning spaces, educational technology, and teaching and learning resources.
Collaborate with the Academic Quality team, the Registrar's Office, and Academic Faculties on the integration, ongoing development, and maintenance of the curriculum management system (Coursedog), contributing to the development, review, and renewal of high-quality programs that reflect evolving box societal and workforce needs.
