As New York City’s only charter high school that is both a transfer school and a fully embedded community school in partnership with The Door, BSA serves over-age, under-credited students who deserve rigorous academic pathways alongside comprehensive wraparound support. The Director of Teaching and Learning (DTL) will serve as a hands-on instructional leader responsible for accelerating academic achievement across the school. BSA stands at a pivotal inflection point and is focused on resetting academic expectations. We are in an active turnaround phase focused on stabilization, systems-building, and cultural reset. Our Director of Teaching and Learning will be responsible members of a dedicated team focused on systems that are coherent, urgent, and measurable. Together, we have a powerful opportunity to transform BSA for the students and families we serve. The DTL will have the opportunity to build, strengthen curriculum, assessment, and coaching systems that drive Regents proficiency, credit accumulation, and improved attendance. They will lead, guide, coach, and support teachers through consistent observation, actionable feedback, and data-driven professional learning aligned to state standards. They will reimagine and demonstrate that schools can transform lives for the better, especially for students who have historically been underserved by traditional schools. They will integrate their experience and expertise with a wrap-around model for student support and school development, providing excellent education for all students. They will transform and be part of a school turnaround that is dedicated to preparing students for meaningful postsecondary pathways and successful futures.
