About The Position

We are seeking an accomplished Director, Tax & Treasury to lead the Canadian tax function for a global pharmaceutical organization. This is a pivotal leadership role, reporting to the Executive Director of Finance, with broad scope, high visibility, and meaningful impact across tax strategy, governance, compliance, and treasury. As a key member of the Canada Finance leadership team, you will be a trusted advisor to senior leadership, shaping the tax position of the Canadian affiliate while helping ensure alignment between local requirements, global policies, and business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA designation required
  • 10 to 12 years of progressive tax experience, ideally within a multinational corporation or a large accounting firm.
  • Strong command of Canadian tax law, transfer pricing, cross-border transactions, non-resident tax matters, tax risk management and indirect taxes.
  • Advanced understanding of US GAAP tax accounting and Canadian accounting principles.
  • Experience with tax audits, settlements and tax authority negotiations.
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Fluency in French is required

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in taxation or completion of In-Depth Tax Course, or equivalent considered a strong asset.
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical, life sciences, or highly regulated industry is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the overall tax strategy for the Canadian entity, ensuring the right balance between compliance, tax efficiency and risk management.
  • Identify complex tax issues, assess risks and recommend practical solutions that take legal, operational and business realities into account.
  • Advise senior leadership on the tax implications of business decisions and strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee the preparation of Canadian corporate income tax returns and related filings.
  • Lead tax audit strategies and manage relationships with tax authorities.
  • Strengthen controls, processes and governance practices related to tax compliance.
  • Work closely with tax legal counsel, accounting firms and other external experts on high-impact matters.
  • Oversee transfer pricing, non-resident tax matters, and cross-border transactions.
  • Lead, engage, and develop a team of three professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and knowledge sharing.
