About The Position

The Director, Supply Chain Planning & Transportation is responsible for leading the technology strategy, service delivery, and operational enablement for platforms and capabilities supporting McKesson Canada’s end-to-end supply chain planning and transportation ecosystem. This role partners closely with Supply Chain, Pharmaceutical Distribution & Operations, Procurement, DC Operations, Transportation, Analytics, and external technology partners to ensure planning and transportation solutions are stable, secure, scalable, and aligned to business priorities. The role provides leadership across demand forecasting, supply planning, replenishment, inventory optimization, transportation execution, visibility, carrier/fleet integration, data quality, analytics, and cross-system integration. The Director is accountable for delivering reliable services, maturing the operating model, reducing operational friction, improving business value realization, and enabling technology modernization while managing risk, compliance, vendor performance, and financial discipline.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or equivalent practical experience; advanced degree or relevant certifications are an asset.
  • Minimum 10–12 years of progressive technology leadership experience, including significant experience leading enterprise applications, service delivery, transformation, or solution delivery in supply chain, logistics, transportation, distribution, or related domains.
  • Experience with supply chain planning and/or transportation technology capabilities such as demand forecasting, supply planning, replenishment, inventory optimization, TMS/transportation execution, route/fleet/carrier integration, shipment visibility, EDI/API integrations, data platforms, and analytics.
  • Strong understanding of IT service management, product/platform operating models, project delivery practices, SDLC, Agile/Waterfall delivery, production support, incident/problem management, and release governance.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with senior business stakeholders, translate business needs into technology roadmaps, and influence across matrixed teams without relying solely on direct authority.
  • Strong vendor management, contract oversight, financial management, and prioritization skills.
  • Proven leadership capability with experience building engaged teams, developing talent, setting direction, and improving accountability.
  • Strong analytical, communication, executive presentation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; bilingual French/English preferred for Canadian stakeholder engagement.
  • Organized, methodical, and detail-oriented; able to manage multiple priorities, operate under pressure, and lead effectively through incidents, ambiguity, and change.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the technology and service strategy for Supply Chain Planning and Transportation solutions, ensuring alignment with McKesson Canada business objectives, growth priorities, service-level expectations, and operational resilience needs.
  • Partner with senior business and technology leadership to define multi-year roadmaps for planning, replenishment, transportation visibility, optimization, automation, data enablement, and modernization of core platforms.
  • Provide thought leadership on supply chain technology trends, including advanced planning, optimization, AI/ML-enabled forecasting, SaaS platform evolution, API-based integration, transportation analytics, and digital visibility capabilities.
  • Translate business priorities into actionable technology plans, investment recommendations, delivery sequencing, and measurable value outcomes.
  • Own and mature the Service Delivery Operating Model for Supply Chain Planning and Transportation technology services, including clear accountability, demand intake, prioritization, incident/problem management, release governance, change control, and continuous improvement.
  • Define and manage service KPIs, SLAs/SLOs, consumption metrics, cost transparency, and executive reporting for planning and transportation services.
  • Ensure reliable support for complex, high-volume business processes including forecasting, supply planning, replenishment, inventory optimization, vendor-managed inventory enablement, transportation routing, shipment visibility, DC integration, order visibility, and carrier/fleet interfaces.
  • Partner with business product owners, operations leaders, PMO, architecture, data, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and vendor teams to coordinate cross-service dependencies and reduce handoffs.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team of managers, analysts, engineers, service leads, and vendor resources supporting planning and transportation capabilities.
  • Set clear goals and expectations, provide coaching and feedback, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer focus, operational discipline, and continuous learning.
  • Build resource and capability plans that address domain knowledge, system expertise, integration skills, business analysis, data quality, vendor management, and support coverage needs.
  • Promote effective succession planning, documentation, cross-training, and reduction of single points of failure.
  • Oversee design, implementation, enhancement, and lifecycle management of planning and transportation technology solutions, ensuring they are scalable, resilient, secure, supportable, and fit for business purpose.
  • Guide delivery teams through requirements, architecture, integration design, data mapping, testing, deployment, hypercare, and production readiness activities.
  • Ensure effective integration across key platforms and data flows, including planning systems, transportation tools, MBA/AS400 where applicable, EDI, APIs, analytics platforms, master data, dashboards, and downstream customer-facing visibility capabilities.
  • Drive project delivery excellence, financial stewardship, and value realization across enhancement, modernization, and operational support initiatives.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, technology partners, and service providers supporting supply chain planning, transportation, analytics, integration, and managed services capabilities.
  • Evaluate vendor performance against commitments, SLAs, deliverables, commercial terms, and expected business outcomes.
  • Support contract lifecycle management, renewal assessments, vendor roadmaps, issue escalation, and strategic partnership opportunities.
  • Ensure vendors provide effective knowledge transfer, documentation, supportability, and sustainable operating practices.
  • Ensure solutions comply with McKesson policies, cybersecurity requirements, privacy standards, regulatory expectations, audit requirements, and technology risk controls.
  • Maintain resiliency, disaster recovery, access management, and business continuity plans for planning and transportation technology services.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to data quality, platform stability, integration failures, vendor dependency, technical debt, operational readiness, security, and process gaps.
  • Establish governance around production changes, incident response, root-cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Drive operational excellence through process standardization, automation, cost optimization, platform simplification, documentation, and continuous service improvement.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to improve forecast accuracy enablement, planning efficiency, inventory decision support, transportation visibility, delivery performance insight, and end-to-end supply chain responsiveness.
  • Support prioritization discussions by providing transparent business impact, capacity, risk, cost, and dependency information.
  • Deliver measurable value through improved service reliability, reduced manual effort, faster issue resolution, better data quality, reduced compliance risk, and stronger business alignment.
