About The Position

The Director Semiconductor Business Development & Product Management identifies, shapes, and commercializes future high-purity quartz (HPQ) growth opportunities across semiconductor and selected adjacent applications. The role owns the strategic opportunity portfolio from market insight through customer validation and commercial scale-up, connecting customer, application, technology and innovation (T&I), operations, and strategic-account perspectives into a product and market roadmap. The position develops market and customer segmentation, identifies growth opportunities, manages a qualified opportunity portfolio, and builds partnerships across the semiconductor ecosystem. It jointly owns the semiconductor product and application roadmap with Application Engineering and T&I, and develops go-to-market plans and decision support for new offerings. The role is based at the Charlotte Office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in a relevant discipline.
  • Typically 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in semiconductor materials, semiconductor equipment, quartzware, specialty materials, or another technically demanding B2B value chain.
  • Proven track record in business development, product management, strategic marketing, or technical-commercial leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to create growth opportunities, build investment cases, manage a portfolio, and move opportunities through qualification to revenue.
  • Experience engaging customers and partners at multiple levels, from engineering and procurement through senior executives.
  • Strong understanding of long qualification cycles, specification ownership, ecosystem dependencies, and switching barriers.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Business, or a related discipline.
  • MBA or equivalent strategic-commercial experience.
  • Background in semiconductor equipment, materials, components, wafer, quartzware, or high-purity specialty-material sectors.
  • Experience combining technical market knowledge with commercial ownership rather than generalist sales alone.
  • Experience operating across Asia, Europe, and North America.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed market, application, and customer segmentation across crucibles, fused-quartz consumables, clean thermal quartzware, advanced packaging, and selected adjacent applications.
  • Identify share-gain, competitive-displacement, new-customer, new-qualification, and new-product opportunities, and establish clear strategic priorities and no-go areas.
  • Translate semiconductor trends—including AI infrastructure, advanced memory, HBM, smaller nodes, and process-step intensity—into implications for HPQ demand and specifications.
  • Own an integrated opportunity portfolio spanning near-term business development, medium-term new product development, and long-term future platforms.
  • Establish quantified business cases covering target customers, volume, revenue, margin, investment, probability, qualification path, risks, and decision gates.
  • Run stage-gate reviews and recommend resource allocation, acceleration, redesign, or termination based on evidence.
  • Move opportunities from strategic concept through accountable ownership, customer validation, qualification, and commercialization.
  • Build relationships with equipment OEMs, quartz fabricators, wafer and crucible producers, foundries, memory manufacturers, research institutes, and industry consortia.
  • Create joint-development, validation, and technology-access partnerships; coordinate senior-level engagement and turn discussions into defined work programs.
  • Use ecosystem insight to anticipate specification shifts, qualification requirements, substitution risks, and emerging applications.
  • Own the semiconductor product and application roadmap jointly with Application Engineering and T&I.
  • Define customer needs, target applications, value propositions, technical requirements, launch criteria, and commercial positioning for new grades.
  • Prioritize product-development resources based on strategic attractiveness, technical feasibility, customer pull, and expected value creation.
  • Recommend portfolio simplification, product repositioning, or product sunset decisions where complexity does not create customer or financial value.
  • Develop go-to-market plans, target-account logic, pricing architecture, qualification strategy, and launch governance for new offerings.
  • Partner with Strategic Account Sales on initial customer engagement and transfer mature opportunities with clear ownership and success criteria.
  • Produce Board- and ExCo-ready market, competitor, portfolio, and investment analyses.
  • Provide structured intelligence on competitors, alternative materials, regional dynamics, customer expansions, and technology-roadmap changes.
