About The Position

CIBC Real Estate Corporate Banking provides a comprehensive suite of real estate financing solutions to large institutional clients, including REITs/REOCs, Pension Funds, and Private Equity Funds. This role involves close collaboration with Investment Banking and other Capital Markets partners to deliver integrated banking services to clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of key client relationships, coordinating the execution of various financing structures such as secured and unsecured revolvers, property acquisition financing, commercial mortgages, and construction loans. As a Director, you will lead client coverage efforts, focusing on new client acquisition, relationship management, underwriting and execution of new deals, and generating referrals to Capital Markets and Commercial Banking product groups. Requirements

  • 7+ years of work experience in real estate lending, financial services, or real estate investments.
  • Business development and credit-related experience.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge and underwriting skills with respect to real estate lending concepts and all asset classes.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented team focused on execution for clients.
  • Deep knowledge of the local market and specialized asset class knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Develop proposals for clients and prospective clients regarding senior debt needs, coordinating activities through the sales cycle and liaising with other units of CIBC.
  • Execute business development initiatives to achieve growth targets by identifying business opportunities and developing financing solutions.
  • Evaluate, structure, and underwrite new transactions ranging from $2 to $300+ million across all real estate asset classes, including interim/construction and long-term commercial mortgages.
  • Pre-screen and qualify loans prior to the underwriting and closing process.
  • Identify opportunities for clients, drive results for CIBC, and effectively collaborate with internal partners to meet client needs.
  • Oversee annual account reviews and monitor loans, ensuring portfolio tracking data and internal reporting are up-to-date.
  • Actively manage a pipeline of real estate loan opportunities using the CRM tool (Salesforce).
  • Structure, negotiate, and document credit arrangements with clients and prospects.
  • Negotiate all terms of credit with Credit Risk Management and assess relationship risks.
  • Act as the transaction sponsor within CIBC.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation.
  • Proactively assess client needs and propose solutions to broaden and deepen client relationships.
  • Collaborate with other product groups in Capital Markets to manage and expand CIBC’s relationships with key clients.
