About The Position

We are seeking a Director, Publications, to join our Medical Affairs team, supporting cross-functional and alliance-wide publication strategy for assigned therapeutic assets. In this role, you will lead the strategic direction and operational performance of publication plans while collaborating with authors, Medical Affairs partners, cross-functional collaborators, and external agency partners. Requirements

  • Doctorate scientific degree required (PhD, PharmD, or MD) along with 7+ years of experience in medical communications or publications management within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience independently leading cross-functional, therapeutic area-specific publication plans.
  • Proven track record managing complex, multi-asset publication plans, ideally within Oncology, Ophthalmology, Hematology, or Rare Diseases.
  • Experience managing external agency partners and publication vendors, including budget oversight and SOW management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and accountable for cross-functional and alliance-wide publications teams.
  • Lead publications review of annual plans and projects with senior management.
  • Lead in defining and building consensus on terms for literature and gap analyses to support scientific communication platform development and publication strategy.
  • Pub plan and medical communication strategy development and evolution.
  • Partner with procurement for agency selection and agency performance management.
  • Budget accountability for agency external resource scope of work (SOW) development, budget tracking, and invoicing according to approved SOW/PO, reflecting work completed.
  • Manage writers/agencies for individual pubs projects to effectively complete execution within specified timelines.
  • Responsibility for alignment on scientific content/communication objectives, author invitations, collection of author agreements, securing medical/clinical lead materials for kick-off meeting discussions, author kick-off calls.
  • Review assigned publications ensuring quality, alignment with scientific communication platform, and compliance with standards for ethical reporting of study data.
  • Oversee efficient and compliant financial management.
  • Ensure adherence to established compliance, regulatory, and ethical standards across all publication activities, including disclosure requirements, TOV guidelines, billing practices, and review documentation.
  • Proactively identify and communicate operational risks, delays, or issues.
  • Working with Executive Director, Publications identify and lead meaningful process improvements and innovations initiatives, as appropriate based on business needs.
