About The Position

Director, Publications brings leadership to cross-functional and alliance-wide Publications teams via oversight of publication plan development and implementation (communication objectives, tactical planning) supporting medical strategies for assigned asset(s). This position is accountable for the strategic direction, operational performance, and overall outcomes of assigned publications plans, working in close collaboration with authors, Medical Affairs TA franchise partners, cross-functional stakeholders, and external agency partners. The ideal candidate brings a transparent, team-oriented, and agile mindset, adapting readily to evolving business needs, and consistently prioritizing what is best for the team and the broader organization over individual preferences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and remain accountable for cross-functional and alliance-wide publications team(s)
  • Lead publications review of annual plans and projects with senior management as needed
  • Lead in defining and building consensus on terms for literature and gap analyses to support scientific communication platform development and publication strategy
  • Pub plan and medical communication strategy development and evolution
  • Partner with procurement for agency selection and agency performance management
  • Budget accountability for agency/ external resource scope of work (SOW) development, budget tracking, and invoicing according to approved SOW/PO
  • Manage writers/agencies for individual pubs projects to effectively complete execution within specified timelines
  • Lead the development, management, and execution of Medical Publication Plans, including clinical manuscripts, abstracts, and scientific meeting presentations, ensuring scientific rigor and regulatory compliance at every stage.
  • Responsibility for alignment on scientific content/communication objectives, author invitations, collection of author agreements, securing medical/clinical lead materials for kick-off meeting discussions, author kick-off calls
  • Review all assigned publications to ensure quality, alignment with scientific communication platform, and compliance with standards for ethical reporting of study data
  • Oversee efficient and compliant financial management
  • Ensure full adherence to established compliance, regulatory, and ethical standards across all publication activities, including disclosure requirements, TOV guidelines, billing practices, and review documentation
  • Proactively identify and communicate operational risks, delays, or issues affecting the team, bringing forward proposed solutions and ensuring timely escalation with recommended paths forward.
  • Working with Executive Director, Publications identify and lead meaningful process improvements and innovations initiatives, as appropriate based on business needs
