About The Position

The Director of Product Systems & Integration will lead the organization responsible for hardware product ownership, hardware and physical transmitter systems engineering, software-hardware system integration, and product-level technical integration. Reporting to the SVP Engineering, Head of R&D, this leader will bring together the roles, methods, and technical leadership needed to translate product intent into integrated, reliable, manufacturable, and commercially scalable medical devices. The organization operates across the product lifecycle, from early requirements and architecture through subsystem integration, design verification, clinical builds, manufacturing transfer, and commercialization. The Director will establish clear technical accountability, strengthen systems engineering and design-for-six-sigma discipline, and develop Hardware Product Owners and systems leaders who can make effective cross-functional decisions and deliver predictable product outcomes. The role leads a multidisciplinary organization and builds operating practices, governance, metrics, and technical readiness across new product development, platform evolution, and sustaining programs. Travel is required 15–25%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of industry experience.
  • At least 9 years of successful management experience in a relevant industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering or systems organizations that deliver complex, safety-critical, regulated products from concept through commercialization.
  • Strong systems engineering depth in product requirements, architecture, interfaces, integration, technical risk management, verification strategy, and design controls.
  • Practical design-for-six-sigma experience and ability to use structured engineering methods to improve product robustness, requirements quality, verification strategy, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Technical breadth to guide decisions across hardware, firmware, sensors, algorithms, mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, and connected product interfaces.
  • Experience building strong teams, developing senior technical leaders, clarifying roles, and creating operating mechanisms that improve execution without unnecessary process.
  • Strong mentoring and coaching skills, including the ability to raise capability, improve decision quality, and help teams operate with clarity and accountability.
  • Effective technical decision-making skills, including framing complex tradeoffs and synthesizing technical concepts into clear messages.
  • Ability to lead through influence in matrixed organizations and establish accountability across functional, program, quality, regulatory, operations, and supplier teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in medical devices or another highly regulated industry.
  • Experience with connected wearable products, high-volume manufacturing, reliability engineering, or transmitter systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Product Systems & Integration organization, including Hardware Product Owners and hardware systems engineering.
  • Establish product-level technical ownership, decision rights, and operating mechanisms across Hardware Product Owners, systems engineers, functional engineering teams, program leadership, Quality, Regulatory, and Operations.
  • Own the effectiveness of hardware product requirements, system architecture, interface definition, requirements decomposition and allocation, and end-to-end traceability across the product lifecycle.
  • Lead cross-functional technical integration across software, electrical, mechanical, firmware, sensor, algorithm, process development, verification, manufacturing, and supplier teams.
  • Identify, resolve, and escalate product-level technical risks, system interactions, and tradeoffs involving performance, reliability, cost, schedule, manufacturability, and regulatory impact.
  • Conduct critical reviews of system-level design decisions, negotiate requirements and specifications across functions, and ensure technical tradeoffs are resolved with clear ownership and evidence-based rationale.
  • Attract, develop, and retain high-performing technical hardware product leaders and systems engineers; establish expectations, career paths, succession plans, and broader technical leadership opportunities.
  • Build a scalable Product Systems & Integration operating model with consistent practices, metrics, governance, and lessons learned across new product development, platform evolution, and sustaining programs.
  • Strengthen technical readiness for engineering and clinical builds, design reviews, verification and validation, phase exits, manufacturing transfer, regulatory submissions, and commercial launch.
  • Mentor and coach direct team members and extend technical leadership across functions.
  • Work with executive leadership to establish direction, solve problems, and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to engineering, executive, and cross-functional audiences.
