Director, Product Execution Leadership

SonosBoston, MA
Hybrid

About The Position

At Sonos, we are dedicated to creating the ultimate listening experience for our customers, which begins with listening to each other. As part of the Sonos team, you will collaborate with individuals of diverse styles, skill sets, and backgrounds to realize our vision, fostering a community where everyone feels included and empowered to do their best work. This is a hybrid position, allowing for a combination of remote work and in-office collaboration. Qualified applicants must reside within commuting distance of our Boston or Glasgow, Scotland office and should anticipate being in the office 2 to 3 days per week for collaboration with partners and key stakeholders. Sonos is on a mission to become the world's most sought-after audio brand, transforming how people listen to music and bringing that experience to music lovers globally. We design and deliver exceptional, uniquely differentiated acoustic hardware and build the high-performance operations teams necessary to bring these products to market. We are seeking a transformational operations leader to establish and lead our newly formed Product Execution Leader (PEL) team. The PEL role consolidates previously distinct functions—Product Realization Leader (PRL) and Product Program Manager/Leader (PPM/PPL)—into a single point of accountability for delivering Sonos products from Exploration to General Availability (GA). This individual will be the leader responsible for all product execution at Sonos, from Product Exploration through GA, working closely with the Product Owner and the Product Core Team. Furthermore, this leader will play a crucial role in representing Global Operations leadership to the Product Core Team on key sourcing strategies, manufacturing locations, technology, and New Product Introduction (NPI) costs. This is a high-visibility leadership position. The Director will build, develop, and continuously improve a team of PELs, each responsible for both the operations execution engine and the program management cadence of an NPI program. The Director will also be instrumental in developing, influencing, and aligning Sonos’ longer-term manufacturing, sourcing, and technology strategies across the operations organizations.

  • Managing and working with teams in USA, Asia and Europe.
  • Broad leadership experience bringing complex, game-changing consumer electronics products to high-volume manufacturing; a technical background with progressive leadership roles in manufacturing operations, new product introduction/development, and/or strategic sourcing is highly desired.
  • Broad, strategic, and creative thinker with a track record of progressive thought leadership.
  • Strong collaboration skills, the ability to effectively influence across multiple groups and collaborate cross-functionally to achieve specific goals.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any US employer, both now and in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree or diploma.
  • Experience leading teams that own both Operations Program management and program management.
  • Experience traveling and working in Asia.
  • Experience in Lean product and process development.

Responsibilities

  • Build, hire, develop, and manage a team of high-performance Product Execution Leaders who lead cross-functional core teams of sourcing, product and process engineering, supply base engineering, quality, tooling, supply planning, logistics, trade compliance and factory program management from exploration through mass production.
  • Build, hire, develop and manage a team of Product Introduction Managers who lead Process Engineers, Test Engineers, Quality Engineers, CM Sourcing Managers, etc. to plan and execute all NPI builds in Asia.
  • Coach and grow leaders, raising the bar on both the operations realization skill set (DFM, tooling, build planning, ramp, total landed cost) and the program leadership skill set (planning, cadence, executive communication, risk management and financial acumen).
  • Define and continuously improve the processes, tools, and standards that enable PELs to execute their day-to-day work more efficiently and consistently across programs.
  • Partner closely with Hardware leaders, Product Owners, PCT, Global Operations leadership and engineering leadership to ensure we are developing the right products and that all new products and new initiatives are supported from a manufacturing-leadership standpoint.
  • Tightly integrate operations and product development, keeping the teams aligned at all times across the portfolio of NPI programs.
  • Embrace the role as the operations leader the organization looks to as the point of accountability for the overall execution and delivery of products at the schedule, quality, cost, and scale Sonos expects.
  • Be the focal point for identifying gaps in organizational capability and driving systemic change that improves the overall effectiveness of Sonos’ Global Operations engine.
  • Coach PELs to own their schedules and milestones, run disciplined reviews, and act as the honest broker who keeps every function aligned and surfaces risk early.
  • Ensure the team drives strong manufacturing plans, DFM, and fixtures, and holds PELs accountable for NPI builds and qualification plans that make products buildable at quality and scale.
  • Guide the team to set supply strategy, secure capacity ahead of the curve, and own ramp and fulfillment so the right SKUs are in place at launch volume.
  • Hold the team accountable for releasing every level of the product BOM via ECO before PVT, sequenced just in time to start production.
  • Set the standard for budget discipline and expect each PEL to own COGS, keep total landed cost under target, and stand behind the business case.
  • Work with each PEL and their product core team to make sure the program budget for each product is within the boundary.
