About The Position

USAA is seeking a dedicated Director Process Excellence – Process Automation. This role offers a flexible work environment requiring the individual to be in the office 4 days per week and can be based in San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Chesapeake, VA or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position. The Director will be responsible for consistently executing business Process Management (BPM) strategy within a Function, Line of Business, or across the Association. They will lead a team of performance improvement experts in fact-based planning and execution of a portfolio of process improvement projects that sustainably improve member and employee experiences and business deliverables. The role involves identifying and managing existing and emerging risks associated with business activities, ensuring they are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled, and adhering to written risk and compliance policies and procedures. Direct reports will include Process Engineers and potentially other disciplines. The Director will act in an advisory capacity on Process Excellence, developing relevant business objectives, metrics, and tactics, and communicating opportunities that enable business units to thrive and achieve USAA's mission and vision. They will identify and prioritize impactful process/project selection with BPM Leaders and business leaders, ensure the adoption of relevant Process Excellence standards and best practices, and serve as a mentor, trainer, coach, and technical leader in support of Process Excellence using process improvement methodologies. Additionally, the Director will build relationships within business units and across the enterprise to foster cooperation and drive improved process maturity, manage a team of Process Improvement professionals, and potentially lead Process Improvement projects to deliver significant business results. They will optimize the performance of managed resources by directing work assignments and providing guidance and training, and build and oversee a team through recruiting, development, retention, coaching, performance management, and other managerial activities. Ensuring risks are managed according to policies and procedures is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
  • 8 years of experience practicing and/or leading resources to enhance business performance by designing and implementing business solutions.
  • 3 years of direct team lead or management experience.
  • Experience demonstrating strong development skills/responsibilities, ability to influence, analysis, and critical thinking skills.
  • Green Belt certification (one which required successful implementation of a process related project that solved a business problem/improved business performance; OR demonstrated completion of 3 Lean/Six Sigma projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or scaling an automation COE with governance and compliance to regulatory expectations embedded
  • Experience leading RPA platforms and demonstrated ability to evaluate/ select tools based on business needs
  • Understanding of process intelligence tooling and how to leverage to drive automation (i.e. process and task mining, process monitoring capabilities)
  • Demonstrated experience automating process workflows
  • Proven track record of building business cases for automation tied to specific KPIs

  • Building and overseeing a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
