About The Position
Reddit is seeking a senior attorney to lead its privacy legal function. This role will oversee the privacy compliance program, provide counsel on privacy compliance platforms, and manage responses to regulatory inquiries. The ideal candidate is passionate about privacy and skilled in process and scale within a rapidly evolving environment. This is a remote position within the United States.
Requirements
- Law degree (JD, LLB, LLM, etc.).
- Locally licensed in your jurisdiction, and ideally have legal experience in multiple jurisdictions.
- 12+ years of legal experience, at a top law firm or in house.
- 5+ years of in-house privacy and/or product counseling experience.
- Demonstrated experience implementing and managing a successful privacy compliance program in a fast-paced, product-forward environment.
- Experience with global privacy laws and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for tech platforms like Reddit.
- Strong legal drafting and writing skills and a penchant for concise, plain English writing.
- Experience responding to and partnering with regulators, particularly in Europe.
- Experience managing high impact and strong performing legal team members in a dynamic, inclusive environment.
- Nimble, proactive and an excellent communicator.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across time zones.
- Ability to build strong relationships with engineers, product managers, legal colleagues and other internal stakeholders at all levels of the business.

Responsibilities
- Manage the Legal team’s support of Reddit’s global privacy compliance program.
- Provide advice and counsel to ensure Reddit meets its legal obligations and legal requirements under US, EU, and other applicable legal frameworks around the world.
- Implement and maintain external and internal privacy- and legal-related policies and processes in line with industry standard frameworks.
- Partner with and advise product and engineering teams to design and implement privacy controls as part of Reddit’s privacy program.
- Manage government and regulator discussions, negotiations, and disclosures on privacy and data protection compliance readiness efforts.
- Serve as the lead legal subject matter expert for privacy and data protection, ensuring consistency in privacy counseling across the legal team, in line with Reddit’s user-centric approach to privacy.
- Partner with and advise technical teams to investigate potential privacy and security issues and ensure compliance with applicable law.
- Act as a strategic, proactive, and pragmatic legal partner and collaborator with high EQ.
- Be an evangelist across the company and externally for Reddit’s privacy-focused approach.
