About The Position

The Director of Postgraduate Well-being provides strategic leadership, subject matter expertise, consultation, and implementation support for postgraduate well-being across MUSC, including interns, residents, fellows, postdoctoral fellows, and other postgraduate trainees. The Director partners with postgraduate education leaders, program leadership, faculty, staff, and trainees to identify and address individual, programmatic, learning-environment, and organizational factors affecting well-being, engagement, and professional fulfillment. The Director leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-informed strategies informed by trainee experience, institutional data, and best practices, translating insights into actionable recommendations and improvement efforts that advance well-being, engagement, psychological safety, and professional fulfillment. As a member of the Center for Workplace Well-being, the Director supports the Enterprise Chief Well-being Officer and Center leadership in advancing MUSC's comprehensive enterprise well-being strategy, with responsibility for ensuring that the unique needs and experiences of postgraduate learners are represented and addressed.

Requirements

Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) in psychology, behavioral health, education, organizational science, health professions education, or a related field, with demonstrated experience in well-being, organizational or learning-environment interventions, consultation, education, and program development and evaluation.
Excellent communication, coaching, public speaking, and presentation skills.
Ability to interpret quantitative and qualitative data and translate findings into strategic priorities, actionable recommendations, and measurable improvement efforts.
Demonstrated ability to influence, build consensus, and establish effective collaborative relationships across organizational levels and disciplines within a complex, matrixed organization.
Demonstrated judgment in navigating sensitive and confidential concerns, competing stakeholder needs, and complex organizational dynamics while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Knowledge of crisis response principles, risk identification, appropriate escalation, and institutional support pathways.
Strong knowledge of ethical, confidentiality, boundary, and role considerations relevant to well-being interventions and support services for postgraduate trainees and healthcare professionals.
Knowledge of organizational and learning-environment drivers of well-being, burnout, engagement, psychological safety, and professional fulfillment.
Ability to manage multiple strategic initiatives and apply organizational change, implementation, and continuous improvement principles to translate enterprise priorities into effective action within complex healthcare and academic environments.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience (2+ years) in organizational well-being, behavioral health, health professions education, graduate medical education, healthcare, or a related setting preferred.
Experience working with postgraduate trainees and/or academic health systems strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Leads the development, implementation, and ongoing advancement of a coordinated postgraduate well-being strategy aligned with the Center for Workplace Well-being's enterprise strategic priorities and applicable accreditation and institutional requirements; establishes priorities, measures progress, and communicates outcomes to Center and postgraduate education leadership.
Leads the review, interpretation, and translation of postgraduate well-being, engagement, and learning-environment data (e.g., ACGME surveys, enterprise people survey, postdoctoral climate data, and other quantitative and qualitative listening data) into actionable recommendations and supports program and institutional leaders in developing, implementing, and evaluating improvement plans.
Identifies and appropriately escalates significant or persistent organizational, cultural, leadership, or learning-environment barriers affecting postgraduate well-being and partners with Center and institutional leadership to support appropriate action.
Serves as the Center for Workplace Well-being's primary strategic partner and subject matter expert to GME and other postgraduate education leadership, developing collaborative relationships with DIOs, program directors and coordinators, faculty, staff, and trainees to advance postgraduate well-being, engagement, and the learning environment.
Provides expert consultation and partners with postgraduate education, program, clinical, and institutional leaders to identify and address organizational and learning-environment factors affecting postgraduate well-being and engagement, including workload and workflow, culture, psychological safety, leadership practices, team dynamics, and access to support.
Facilitates awareness of, navigation to, and access to appropriate mental health, well-being, peer support, and other support resources and collaborates with relevant institutional partners to identify and address barriers to access.
Develops, implements, and evaluates evidence-informed education and interventions designed to strengthen postgraduate well-being, professional fulfillment, psychological safety, connection, help-seeking, and awareness of available resources.
Develops and evaluates proactive mechanisms for engaging postgraduate trainees, identifying emerging well-being needs, and informing improvement efforts, including rounding, structured listening, outreach, and other evidence-informed approaches.
Collaborates with Center for Workplace Well-being leaders and team members to integrate the needs and experiences of postgraduate populations into relevant enterprise well-being, mental health, workforce experience and engagement, and other strategic initiatives.
Represents the Center for Workplace Well-being and provides subject matter expertise on institutional and program-level committees, workgroups, initiatives, and forums related to postgraduate well-being and the learning environment.
Participates in Center for Workplace Well-being-led research, quality improvement, and program evaluation activities related to postgraduate well-being and the learning environment.
May provide functional leadership, project oversight, and/or supervision of staff, trainees, interns, or other personnel supporting postgraduate well-being initiatives, as assigned.
