About The Position

This role is responsible for the leadership, regulatory compliance, communication, planning, coordination, and technical aspects of Plant Engineering. The Director will manage personnel, budgets, and ensure the efficient and safe operation of the institution's facilities. This includes overseeing maintenance, repairs, renovations, and compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree OR Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7+ years related experience
  • 3+ years of management experience

Responsibilities

  • Select, develop, discipline, and evaluate reporting personnel.
  • Participate in the interview and selection process of new employees.
  • Evaluate and manage annual fiscal operating and capital budgets for area of responsibility.
  • Prepare annual department budget and approve orders for equipment as authorized.
  • Approve all purchases in area of responsibility.
  • Edit and approve Kronos time sheets for all reporting personnel.
  • Conduct determination-of-need and cost-benefit studies for proposed new programs, equipment, and services.
  • Recommend improvements in the institution's facilities through renovation of structures and replacement of equipment.
  • Meet with staff to identify problem areas, develop improvement methods, and evaluate programs.
  • Analyze costs and work schedules; set priorities; expedite operations and repairs.
  • Make job requirements and goals clear to employees and provide sufficient training.
  • Maintain proper documentation of all assigned safety, maintenance, and operations policies, procedures, and schematics.
  • Monitor and communicate compliance with specification codes and hospital standards.
  • Establish departmental policies and procedures and approve changes.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety, environmental protection, and fire protection regulations and standards, as well as TJC and JCAHO accreditation requirements.
  • Spot check work to ensure that workmanship meets standards and that safety and building regulations are complied with.
  • Establish and administer a preventative maintenance program.
  • Determine and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Manage attendance at required CCHMC's training sessions.
  • Adhere to and enforce all safe work practices and policies in the department.
  • Enforce compliance with Infection Control policies and procedures.
  • Implement schedules and recommend action to ensure services are regularly and conveniently available.
  • Report items to Assistant Vice President Facilities affecting proper operation of plant and equipment.
  • Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment.
  • Communicate to others Cincinnati Children's mission, goals, and values.
  • Provide education to personnel, patients, or families.
  • Coordinate patient room refurbishing with Nursing and Plant Engineering crafts.
  • Maintain proper scheduling of personnel and procurement of material for cost-effective maintenance and repair.
  • Oversee capital projects and renovations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Review timeliness, accuracy, availability, and security of information.
  • Direct the day-to-day operation and repair of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Acquire and interpret maintenance data to determine appropriate schedules for the upkeep of plant finishes.
  • Interview contractors to receive and analyze bids, including blueprint analysis of proposed changes.
  • Submit and recommend bids to administration based on economics and feasibility.
  • Assist in evaluation of bids submitted by outside contractors.
  • Administer and direct programs on all utilities and their distribution systems.
  • Maintain currency in the field through continuing education, literature, and seminars.
  • Identify service areas, plan approaches for improvement activities, design new processes, systematically measure data, assess performance, improve and redesign processes, and reassess continuously.
