About The Position

The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) is an independent scientific organization that develops quality standards for medicines, dietary supplements, and food ingredients. USP has launched a pharmaceutical product quality testing program (PPQT) where manufacturers can voluntarily engage USP to conduct validated, third-party quality testing of medicines. This program aims to provide additional assurance to health systems or other medicines procurers. Following a successful pilot, USP is expanding the program by implementing a pathfinder program that leverages health system demand to pilot the inclusion of testing criteria into group purchasing organization (GPO) practices for select medicines. The Director, Pharmaceutical Product Quality Testing will be responsible for implementing this business plan and ensuring the overall success and growth of this new business line.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, business administration, supply chain management, health administration, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in a group purchasing organization (GPO) or in close adjacency with proven deep knowledge of GPO contracting practices and business model.
  • At least 5 years of proven experience leading complex projects/initiatives focused on clear business objectives.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a role involving external-facing/customer-facing responsibilities.
  • Highly organized with strong execution skills and results orientation.
  • Ability to influence effectively across complex organizations to achieve results.
  • Client and solution focused, with ability to actively listen and adapt approach to meet client needs.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to adapt messaging by audience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to navigate and resolve ambiguity.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in pharmacy, business, supply chain or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the PPQT business plan and ensure the overall success and growth of the new business line.
  • Update and adjust the PPQT business strategy and plan as needed to respond to market signals.
  • Develop/finalize core communication and marketing materials and associated visibility plan.
  • Prepare/finalize key communications materials tailored to target stakeholder groups (manufacturers, GPOs, health systems).
  • Develop and deploy thought leadership/content pieces to reinforce/amplify program vision.
  • Support/provide inputs to ongoing advocacy efforts to mobilize support/demand across influential agencies within the US government.
  • Develop and execute a meetings/events strategy to ensure program visibility at strategic convenings.
  • Execute customer outreach and demand generation plan by engaging key stakeholders: Health systems, Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), Manufacturers, and Associations/partner organizations.
  • Mobilize external consulting resources and USP staff to help engage target audiences.
  • Coordinate across key internal stakeholders (laboratory operations, pricing, legal) to ensure appropriate systems, processes, and contractual documents are in place.
  • Ensure timely, high-quality deliverables for program subscribers.
  • Solicit and collect ongoing feedback to inform continuous improvement.
