About The Position

Headway is seeking a Director of Payer Marketing to build and lead a function that establishes Headway as the most credible and trusted voice in mental health for payers. This role is for an enterprise B2B product marketing leader who can translate narrative into commercial leverage, understand their audience deeply, and drive outcomes like stronger relationships, renewals, expanded partnerships, and better terms. It's a player-coach role where you will set the strategy, build and lead a team, and collaborate with Payer/Commercial, Clinical Strategy, and Provider, Patient & Brand marketing teams. This is a unique opportunity to operate at a scale that materially shapes mental healthcare in America.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience as an enterprise B2B product marketing leader.
  • 5+ years of experience managing teams.
  • Proven track record in positioning, messaging, GTM, enablement, and competitive intelligence.
  • Experience in or adjacent to health plans, value-based care, or complex B2B healthcare environments.
  • Demonstrated success where marketing has moved commercial outcomes (win rates, deal terms, expansion, preferred status).
  • Experience with expand-after-land marketing at enterprise scale, building commercial cases and sales enablement for new solutions.
  • Strong customer-first instincts and ability to influence without authority.
  • Comfort with complexity, uncertainty, and fast-moving environments.
  • Experience building a function, process, or go-to-market motion from scratch.
  • Proactive curiosity and a drive to build a deep understanding of the landscape.
  • Ability to be multi-threaded internally, seeking out information from other teams (e.g., patient, provider) to inform payer strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Set the payer marketing strategy, defining overarching positioning, narrative, and GTM plan for health plans.
  • Build the payer marketing function from the ground up, defining the operating model, team structure, cadences, and metrics.
  • Create a compelling category story that resonates with plans, providers, and partners.
  • Partner with Product and Payer/Commercial to commercialize net-new payer solutions, defining marketability, building proof and positioning, and orchestrating launches.
  • Translate complex clinical data into compelling outcomes narratives, benchmarks, and insights (data stories, trend reports, category POV) in partnership with Clinical Strategy and Research.
  • Drive field marketing and enablement for the Payer/Commercial team, providing content, pitch decks, RFP support, case studies, and tools.
  • Plan and execute events and moments that bring the narrative to life, including conference presence, customer events, executive meetings, and partner co-presentations.
  • Equip plans to market Headway to their members during open enrollment and AEP.
  • Track competitor and adjacent player positioning to payers and provide sharp, current narratives to leadership and commercial teams.
  • Define success around relationship depth and commercial impact, measuring leverage beyond just funnel metrics.

Benefits

  • Meaningful work contributing to changing mental healthcare.
  • Opportunity to operate at a scale that materially shapes mental healthcare in America.
  • Work with a Series D funded company with significant backing.
  • Opportunity to build a function from scratch and leave a lasting mark.
