The Director, Research provides leadership and oversight for departmental research activities by optimizing research opportunities for faculty, residents, and trainees through support of basic, clinical, and translational research project conception and development, grant writing, recruitment and compliance, manuscript development, and management of submissions. Builds and sustains a research portfolio aligned with departmental and organizational priorities. The Oncology Research Director provides strategic, operational, and administrative leadership for the Carilion Clinic Oncology Research Enterprise. This leader is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive oncology research infrastructure that advances clinical research across Carilion Clinic. The Director will lead the growth of a high-performing oncology research portfolio, oversee research operations and governance, strengthen clinical trial performance, foster investigator development, and build the infrastructure necessary to support long-term growth and national recognition of Carilion's cancer research programs. This position serves as the operational architect of the oncology research enterprise and works collaboratively with physician investigators, research leaders, academic partners, and health system executives to advance innovation and improve cancer outcomes across Southwest Virginia.
