About The Position

Iowa State University seeks a Director of Women’s Wrestling Operations/Assistant Coach to help launch, support, and advance the university’s emerging women’s wrestling program. The Director of Women’s Wrestling Operations/Assistant Coach will manage the daily operations, logistics, and administrative functions of the women’s wrestling program while also contributing to on‑mat coaching and athlete development. This position collaborates closely with the wrestling coaching staff, athletics administration, the compliance office, and key campus partners to ensure efficient program operations, strict adherence to NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations, and an exceptional student‑athlete experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Directly related experience in sport operations and coaching wrestling at a highly competitive level (post high school).
  • Strong wrestling knowledge.
  • Excellent work ethic.
  • Exceptional motivational, teaching/coaching, and communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational, decision‑making, multitasking, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to multicultural engagement and working with a diverse student body.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful experience coaching women’s wrestling athletes at the collegiate, professional, or elite amateur level.
  • Expertise with upper women’s weight classes, specifically the 145-207 lb range.
  • Experience in wrestling operations within a collegiate or other elite-level wrestling organization.
  • Experience organizing team travel and executing logistics at away competitions.
  • Experience processing business expenses and supporting budget management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day‑to‑day logistics, including coach and team scheduling, expenditures, and budgeting.
  • Serve as the primary connection between the coaching staff and operational units within Athletics – including business, compliance, ticketing, and marketing.
  • Assist with planning effective practice sessions and competitive coaching situations.
  • Attend all team practices and matches.
  • Effectively teach, mentor, and coach to develop well-rounded student-athletes and contribute to and enhance a nationally competitive athletic experience.
  • Support home and away competitions, tournaments, team events, alumni functions, and other program initiatives.
  • Assist with recruiting visits, databases, and NCAA documentation.
  • Oversee student admissions and transition support for incoming student‑athletes, including with housing, academic affairs, billing, and compliance.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with students, their parents, colleagues, and internal and external partners.
  • Plan and execute team travel details from door-to-door, working with the department’s travel agents to shape competition trips that suit coaches’ and athletes’ needs and preferences.
