About The Position

The Archdiocese of Chicago is seeking a Director of Vicariate Renewal, a senior position serving the needs of a particular vicariate (pastoral region of approximately 40 parishes) in the work of spiritual renewal. This role supports the pastoral vision of the Archbishop of Chicago through direct ministry support of pastors and parish leadership teams. The Director will also serve as a senior ministry team member on the episcopal vicar’s vicariate team. The work involves direct engagement with pastors and lay leadership bodies within parishes, supporting parishes through the vicariate team, and contributing at the archdiocesan level within the Office for Parish Renewal.

Requirements

  • 3+ years with ministry leadership experience at the parish level, Archdiocesan offices, or other mission driven organizations.
  • Must demonstrate understanding and support for Catholic Church teaching, missions and values
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, Team Player with strong Conflict Resolution skills
  • Some Spanish language skills and cultural competency.
  • Strong facilitation skills, ability to conduct open dialogue
  • Ability to relate at multiple ecclesial levels: parish, deanery, vicariate, Archdiocesan and departmental. Ability to handle details of confidential nature.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word and Power Point.
  • Strong decision-making ability and exercising good judgment.
  • Fully committed to the Catholic Church’s teachings.
  • Other skills as deemed necessary by local Vicar
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, collaborative, persistent, fair and balanced, dependable, sensitive to racially and ethnically diverse community; ability to deal with multiple projects, openness to the needs of the system, flexible, integrity, sound judgment.
  • Carry materials and climb stairs; must be able to lift 20 lbs. and to carry boxes up/downstairs, available to work evening and weekend meetings when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Drives spiritual renewal vision implementation through support of pastors and parishes within the vicariate and contributes to overall archdiocesan spiritual renewal efforts through participation in projects to respond to needs arising across the archdiocese.
  • Drives renewal implementation in vicariate parishes by supporting pastors and parish leadership teams.
  • Builds relationships with pastors to become a trusted support and resource.
  • Engages pastors in initial vision sharing.
  • Provides tools and resources for spiritual renewal and culture change, particularly in the parish’s efforts in evangelization and missionary discipleship.
  • Serves as an integral member of the vicariate team, collaborating with the other team members to support the Vicar, pastors, and parishes most effectively.
  • Aligns on opportunities and challenges around spiritual renewal in the vicariate and coordinates with the whole team on how to best support the parishes.
  • Participates in deanery, vicariate, and state of the parish meetings, hosts other meetings by deanery and vicariate as necessary.
  • Serves as the Vicar’s delegate, when appropriate and assigned, in responding to situations of critical pastoral need.
  • Brokers connections with resources from other offices within the Department of Parish Vitality and Mission, as well as other archdiocesan offices.
  • Meets regularly with team of Directors of Vicariate Renewal for support, communications, and peer learning.
  • Collaborates with teammates on archdiocesan level projects to develop tools in response to parish renewal needs.
