About The Position

The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia is seeking a dynamic, engaging, and team-oriented Director of Undergraduate Admissions & Recruiting (DUAR). This role is responsible for representing and promoting academic programs to prospective students and families. The DUAR will lead all aspects of the McIntire Office of Undergraduate Admission, including developing and managing the admissions recruiting and advising strategy, overseeing the COMM Cohort program, managing internal and external transfer admission processes, directing the Undergraduate Admissions team, and collaborating with School leadership on the undergraduate admission process within the University and the broader business school landscape. This position requires collaboration and contribution in a team environment with a commitment to continuous improvement. The McIntire Office of Undergraduate Admission handles all facets of undergraduate recruitment and admission, including planning and executing information sessions, recruiting and advising prospective students, facilitating admissions processes for the B.S. in Commerce and minor degree programs, and engaging with various constituents through multiple communication methods. The office is dedicated to supporting students through a competitive process by recognizing their unique interests, aspirations, backgrounds, and strengths. The McIntire School of Commerce is a premier undergraduate business program in the United States, offering a distinctive three-year Bachelor of Science in Commerce program preceded by one year of coursework at another University school. Admission is highly selective, with applications due at the conclusion of a student's first year.

Requirements

  • An appreciation for the discipline of commerce and how it may be used as a catalyst for change.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, high level of accuracy, attention to detail and creativity.
  • Expertise in using data and conducting analysis to understand and respond to trends by making both programming and operational changes.
  • Aptitude to learn and communicate Commerce School requirements, curriculum, and educational trends.
  • Exceptional skill in working effectively with undergraduate students of all backgrounds and their families in championing the McIntire School.
  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple projects, prioritize a variety of responsibilities and work efficiently within and across teams.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite programs, including Office 365.
  • Experience with or the ability to learn the Slate admissions system and other platforms as needed.
  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 7 years of experience in admissions, advising, recruiting, student affairs, or a related field within a higher education setting.

  • A Master’s degree in Higher Education, or a related field.
  • 7 plus years of experience (in addition to the minimum requirement).

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for all undergraduate admission-related services at McIntire.
  • Develop and implement new admissions and recruitment pathways for McIntire programs.
  • Supervise and lead Admissions team members.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Office of Undergraduate Admission.
  • Develop operating policies and procedures and review them continuously.
  • Develop strategic marketing, recruitment, and operational plans annually and collaborate with internal marketing units to execute them.
  • Collaborate with other units within the School (Marketing and Communications, Advancement, Faculty, etc.) to ensure consistent messaging and effective communication.
  • Develop and execute assessments of all programs, strategic communications, and admissions processes.
  • Serve as the key leader representing admissions within the Student Success Office and McIntire.
  • Represent the School on various University Committees and Task Forces.
  • Oversee the implementation and effective utilization of technology and software solutions for admission and recruitment efforts.
  • Collaborate with the McIntire graduate recruiting and admissions team to ensure synergies and build pipelines into graduate programs.
  • Perform other duties and projects impacting Undergraduate Admissions or Student Success and Academic Operations.
  • Serve as the key contact with University constituents for recruiting and yield events, and public inquiries regarding admission to the B.S. in Commerce program.
  • Advise prospective students and ensure quality and consistency of advising through training of Admissions team members.
  • Coordinate information sessions and other recruiting and advising events and programs.
  • Steward the McIntire Ambassador Program, ensuring training and evaluation.
  • Facilitate the creation and deployment of strategic communication and marketing collateral, including website updates.
  • Collaborate with McIntire and University colleagues and student organizations on events and programs.
  • Collaborate with the Dean, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Programs, and Associate Dean for Student Success to establish recruiting goals and yields.
  • Manage all facets of the Commerce Cohort Program, including recruitment, selection, advising, mentorship, instruction, marketing, fundraising, and reporting.
  • Work with McIntire Affinity Groups, Commerce Related Student Organizations (CRSOs), and University student groups on programming and initiatives.
  • Chair the Undergraduate Admission Committee.
  • Oversee the internal admission process and support for the Admission Committee.
  • Communicate admissions process information with internal and external constituents.
  • Ensure Slate and other admission systems are continually updated.
  • Oversee the reporting and analysis of admissions cycle data for internal transfers.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on new student onboarding and transition for internal transfers.
  • Serve as the key point of contact for the UVA Office of Undergraduate Admission for external transfer admissions.
  • Oversee the advising of prospective external transfer students and ensure quality and consistency.
  • Oversee the audit and review of matriculated transfer students’ academic requirements and coordinate transfer credit.
  • Collaborate with Student Success colleagues on the onboarding process for external transfer students.
  • Track the academic progress of transfer students to inform recruitment and admission decisions.
  • Collaborate with School leaders and pan-University minor leaders on developing admission procedures for minors.
  • Develop and manage strategic marketing initiatives for minors.
  • Collaborate with minor Admission Committees on candidate selection and oversee each minor admission process.
  • Advise undergraduate students interested in the General Business Minor on benefits and academic requirements.
  • Facilitate the establishment of a pipeline of students from Minor programs into applying to graduate programs within McIntire.
