About The Position

The Director of Transportation & Facilities provides strategic and operational leadership for the organization’s facilities and transportation functions. This role oversees four owned buildings and their surrounding properties, as well as a fleet of approximately 12 vehicles, with additional vehicles anticipated in 2026. The Director ensures that all facilities, including Clubhouses, KCHA buildings, and community centers, are safe, clean, well-maintained, and compliant with regulatory requirements. The Director also manages the organization’s transportation operations to support program needs. The ideal candidate is approachable, solutions-oriented, and comfortable balancing hands-on responsibilities with long-term planning. The Director may also assist with remodeling and construction project management as the organization continues to grow.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in facilities management, transportation oversight, operations leadership, or related fields.
  • Experience supervising staff, ideally in a nonprofit or mission‑driven environment.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and safety regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, including remodels or construction‑related work.
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Commitment to maintaining a welcoming, safe, and well‑functioning environment for staff, families, and community members.

  • Experience managing vehicle fleets preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the oversight of the maintenance, safety, and operational readiness of four owned buildings and their surrounding properties.
  • Ensure facilities are clean, well‑maintained, and compliant with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules and vendor service agreements.
  • Support and, when needed, lead remodeling, renovation, and small‑scale construction projects, including contractor coordination and project timelines.
  • Monitor facility budgets, capital improvement needs, and long‑term asset planning.
  • Manage a fleet of approximately 12 vehicles, with expansion planned for 2026.
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance, safety inspections, licensing, and replacement schedules.
  • Develop and maintain transportation policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Coordinate vehicle usage to support program and operational needs.
  • Support a facilities/transportation director by providing plans to maintain all assets.
  • Foster a positive, approachable, and collaborative working environment.
  • Ensure clear communication and alignment across departments regarding facility and transportation needs.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and transportation requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records related to inspections, permits, and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with leadership on risk mitigation strategies related to facilities and fleet operations.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for facilities and transportation.
  • Oversee vendor relationships, contracts, and service agreements.
  • Evaluate cost‑effective solutions for maintenance, repairs, and fleet operations.
