About The Position

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking a new Director for the General Psychiatry Residency Program. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Associate or full Professor in the University Medical Line or Clinician Educator Line, with the exact academic rank and line to be determined by the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. The General Psychiatry Residency is a 4-year program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) that strives to develop a standard of clinical excellence for the 21st-century practice of psychiatry by integrating scientific advancement, clinical artistry, and an understanding of the complex needs of the psychiatric population. The program provides its residents with an outstanding and balanced educational experience through emphasizing biological, psychological, and sociocultural aspects of psychiatry. Professional growth in academic, leadership, administrative, and clinical experiences is fostered through intensive mentoring and exposure to customized experiences based on resident interest. The program also encourages self-reflective learning and enables personal growth through an emphasis on mutual and supportive feedback mechanisms and opportunities for furthering self-awareness.

Requirements

  • Medical degree.
  • Completed training in General Psychiatry.
  • Board-certified in General Psychiatry.
  • Possess or be fully eligible for a California medical license.
  • Demonstrated experience in graduate medical education and leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to teaching, mentorship, and academic excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic, educational, and administrative leadership of the residency program.
  • Performing key administrative oversight/liaison functions for the advanced physician fellowship programs of the department.
  • Ensuring compliance with ACGME standards.
  • Fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Promoting innovation in graduate medical education.
  • Oversight of all aspects of residency program administration and curriculum development.
  • Recruitment, mentoring, and evaluation of residents and faculty.
  • Leading program evaluation and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Promoting a culture of professionalism, wellness, and inclusivity.
  • Collaborating with institutional leadership to align program goals with organizational mission.
