About The Position

The Director, Center for Teaching and Learning provides strategic leadership for faculty professional development and instructional excellence in support of student success at Ocean County College. The Director designs and oversees programs that promote effective, equitable, and evidence-based teaching practices in support of student success and workforce readiness; supports faculty across disciplines and career stages; and advances innovation in pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, and instructional technology. Working collaboratively with academic leadership and campus partners, the Director aligns the Center’s initiatives with institutional goals, accreditation standards, and the needs of a diverse, open-access student population, while managing operations, staff, and resources.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education, Distance Learning, Instructional Technology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Five years of progressively responsible professional experience that includes the independent management of an operational unit, program, or function, with demonstrated involvement in strategic planning, project management, assessment, and report writing, requiring strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Four years of leadership and/or supervisory experience with direct accountability for departmental, unit, and/or team outcomes.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in higher education focused on instructional technology, online learning, or technology-enhanced instruction.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related software systems, including the ability to independently produce detailed reports and documents and to provide basic training or support to users.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching in higher education, preferably at a community college or other open-access institution.
  • Demonstrated experience leading faculty professional development related to effective teaching practices, online, hyflex and hybrid instruction, and the integration of instructional technologies.
  • Knowledge of learning management systems, instructional design models, accessibility standards, and quality assurance frameworks for online learning.
  • Experience supporting workforce education, career and technical programs, or industry-aligned curriculum initiatives.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards, institutional effectiveness, assessment of student learning, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative partnerships across academic, student services, IT, and administrative units.
  • Experience managing budgets, grants, or externally funded projects.
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Center for Teaching and Learning, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of faculty professional development initiatives aligned with institutional goals and workforce needs.
  • Design, coordinate, and assess programs that support effective, equitable, and evidence-based teaching practices across in-person, online, hyflex and hybrid learning environments.
  • Collaborate with faculty, academic leaders, and staff to support course design, instructional innovation, assessment of student learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead initiatives that promote the effective use of instructional technology, learning management systems, and digital tools to enhance teaching and student engagement.
  • Support faculty at all career stages through workshops, consultations, learning communities, and individualized instructional support.
  • Integrate inclusive teaching practices, accessibility standards, and universal design for learning principles into faculty development programming.
  • Oversee the Center’s operations, including supervision of staff, budget management, resource allocation, and program assessment.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to support workforce education, career pathways, and alignment with industry and accreditation standards.
  • Monitor emerging trends, research, and best practices in teaching, learning, and educational technology, and translate them into actionable strategies for the College.
  • Performs related duties, projects, and initiatives as assigned.
